Performed observation and soil density testing on common borrow placed at the following locations: over SF-55 and SF-20 Geogrid Reinforcing from stations 11+50 to 15+95; continuing build up along west side of Cedar Road from stations 10+00 to 13+00 for the Conveyor Belt extension and access road to the belt. Performed soil density testing at above locations per T310 and SOP 615 (Method 1) using a Troxler nuclear density gauge model 3440. The moisture density relationship value of 117.0 with a 12.1% optimum moisture was used per Mayes Testing lab number T-09082-21. The tests meet the 95% required compaction. The contractor was informed of test results. See attached Field Density Report and Density Work Sheets for results and locations. This common borrow used was being transported by a conveyor belt from the Rolling Hills south of Thunder Creek. While the Geogrid Reinforcing was being installed from stations 11+50 to 15+95 the following was verified: 1. Checked to assure that the proper type of Geogrid reinforcing was being used and was not damaged. 2. Checked to assure the minimum embedment depth was attained according to approved plans&specs 3. Checked that Geogrid was attached together, with the subcontractor using twist ties placed at a 1' to 2' spacing and overlapping the Geogrid 2 to 6 inches. 4. A total of 54 rolls of SF-55 and 4 rolls of SF-20 Geogrid Reinforcing were placed today. 5. That fill being placed did not exceed 1'. The subcontractor is using a laser to check elevations on each lift. 6. That the Geogrid was laying flat and not bundled up prior to fill being placed. 7. The unused Geogrid was covered with black plastic to protect from the sun. Spoke with Mike Ross with CDB and approximately 880 cubic yards of material from a total of 44 truck loads was transported by the belt today. CTI placed a total of 4,600 cubic yards of material (184 truck loads) from the belt and stockpiles. The CTI placed a total of 2 1/2 lifts of fill over the Geogrid Reinforcing, finishing from stations 14+25 to 15+95 on elevation 185' and completing lifts at elevations 186' and 187'. The 3rd holding point was reached at elevation 186. Kevin Viren with WSDOT and myself spoke with Kevin Wicklund foreman with CTI that all testing had been obtained and it was alright to continue. Ken Viren with WSDOT performed Soil Density testing per T310 and obtained a sample per SOP 615 method 1. Visited by Bob Pyle compliance inspector with WSDOT, Chad Webley Eng. with CDB, and Korey Voldman Eng. Manager with CDB to see the progress of the project.
