T09082 Todays activities listed for CDB at Defoor Site:
Observation and soil testing on common borrow placed over Miragrid 3XT geogrid reinforcing from stations 11+75 to
15+95. The primary lift at elevation 211' was complete upon my arrival and contractor was placing secondary lift at
elevation 212'. Upon placement of lift, fill was compacted by roller and three nuclear density tests were performed.
Performed soil density testing at above locations as per T310 using a nuclear density gauge model number 3440 and a
Moisture Density Realationship (T99) value of 117.0 pcf @ 12.1 optimum moisture. The tests met the required compaction
on fill of 95% and contractor was informed of test results. See attached Field Density Report for results and locations.
The common borrow used had previously been transported by conveyor belt from the Rolling Hills site south of Thunder
Creek.
The following items were verified:
1) Proper type of geogrid reinforcing was used and was not damaged prior to installation.
2) Checked to assure the minimum embedment depth was attained according to approved plans & specifications.
3) Checked that geogrid was attached together, subcontractor was using twist ties placing with 1' to 2' spacing and
overlapping geogrid 2" to 6".
4) A total of 39 rolls of Miragrid 3XTgeogrid placed as primary reinforcment and 3 rolls of Miragrid 3XT geogrid placed as
secondary reinforcing was layed today.
5) Fill placed did not exceed 1' lifts verified by laser to check elevations each lift.
6) Geogrid was laying flat and not bundled up prior to fill.
Foreman on site verified approximately 3025 cubic yards of material was placed today.
Observed one 350 offroad dump trucks driving over compacted material throughout the day with no deflection or yielding in
the material.
CTI placed a total of two lifts of fill today.
The final lift at an elevation at 213 ft was compacted and tested.
