My name is Todd Gowing. I am the permit manager with King County Industrial Waste for
Northwest Gourmet Foods. I wanted to touch base with you before I send in any written
statement regarding the facility.
Currently, the facility is not in compliance with its discharge permit. They have had several pH
discharge violations that will need to be corrected. I also conducted a site inspection of the
facility which yielded a list of corrective items that needed to be addressed and gave them due
dates for those corrections. I will forward that email to you.
The reason I wanted to contact you is to verify this condition will not add additional wastewater
to their discharge. They claim that the condensate will discharge to the ground and not to the
sanitary sewer. In that case, King County will have no jurisdiction over that water. I would not
be in a position to approve that waste stream. If on the other hand the water is routed to the
sewer, Northwest Gourmet Foods would be required to include that waste stream on their
application to discharge. They are in the process of re-applying based on several violations of
their maximum daily discharge volume.
Finally, in my opinion, the condensate water will have no bearing on the compliance of their
wastewater. Their current pH issues stem from the nature of their product and pretreatment
set points. King County will be taking action to correct these issues regardless of any additional
wastewater.
