HomeMy WebLinkAboutW-045201CAST IRON PIPE Cast iron pipe 4 thru 12" shall conform to ASA Specification A21. -6 -1970 'AWWA C106 -70) and /or A21.8 -1970 (AWWA C108 -1970) and shall be thickness Class 22 designed to ASA Specification A21.1 method of design using a modulus of rupture of 45,000 PSI and a tensile strength of 21.,000 PSI. The cast iron pipe shall be designed for - aworking' pressure 0,thru 300 PSI for laying condition B and 5 feet of cover. 14" thru 24" cast iron pipe shall conform to the above specifications except designed for working pressure 0 thru 200 PSI, and 24;; pipe .shall be thickness Class 23. All cast iron pipe shall be cement lined and sealed in accordance with ASA Specification A21.4-1964 (AWWA C104 -64.), 4" thru 12 "- pipe shall be 1/16 " .cement lined and 14" thru 24" pipe shall be 3/32" cement lined. The pipe joints shall conform to ASA Specification A21.11 -1964 (AWWA C111 -64.). Pipe joints shall be Push -On and/or Mechanical as required by the Bid. Proposal description. DUC`i' II:OII PIi E Ductile Iron Pipe shall conform to ASA Specification A21.51 -1965 (AWWA C151 -55) Grade 60- .42 -10. Ductile Iron Pipe shall be cement lined and sealed in accordance with :. ASA Specification A21.4 -1964 (AWWA C104-64), 4" thru 12" pipe shall be 1/16" cement lined and 14 ".thru 24 "- pipe shall be:3 /32 cement lined. The pipe joints shall conform to ASA Specification A21.11 -1964 (AWWA C111 -4). Pipe joints shall be Push-on and/or Mechanical as required by the bid proposal description. Pipe thickness class shall be as required by the bid proposal description. PIPE FITTINGS Cast iron pipe fittings 4" thru 12" shall be Class 250, and 14" thru 24" shall be Class 150, as per ASA Specification A21 -.10 -1964 (AWWA .C11^-64). Joints for fittings shall be Mechanical Joint as per .ASA Specificat::.on A21 -..11 -1964 (AWWA C111 -64). The above shall hold true unless called out otherwise on the plans or in the Bid Proposal. GATE VALVES (3" thru 12 ") Gate valves shall be cast iron body, non - rising stem, full bronze mounted with double disc gates. All valves shall be designed for a minimum water operating pressure of two .hundred (200) pounds per square inch and shall conform to': MIA .Specification C- 500 -61 and any subsequent modification thereof.. r;ach valve shall be "0" ring type, provided with a standard square ::operating -nut, and shall open by turning counter clockwise (left). The valves shall be IOWA List 14, or Mueller A -2380, or approved equal. GATE VALVES (14" thru 24 ") Gate valves 'hall be of tensile strength cast iron, non-rising - stem, ..full bronze mounted with double disc gates. All valves shall be designed ":for a minimum water operating pressure of one hundred fifty (150). .pounds per square inch and shall conform to AWWA Specification C-500-61, and any sub- sequent modificati?n thereof. The gate valves shall be for horizontal installation on horizontal pipe. The valves shall be equipped with bypass valves, enclosed bevel gearing andgreasecase, - tracks, rollers, scrappers, and a standard square opera- ting nut which shall open by .turning counter clockwise '(left). The bypass valves shall conform to the specifications for 3" thru 12" Gate valves. - :FIRE HYDRANTS (Traditional Style) Fire Hydrants shall be Corey ,Type (opening with the pressure) conforming to AAIWA C- 502 -64 with 6" inlet and a minimum M.V.O. of 5", Two 2 1/2" hose nozzles with National Standard 7 1/2 threads per inch and one 4" pumper nozzle with the new Seattle Pattern 6 threads per inch, 60 "V. threads, O.D. thread -4.875 and root diameter - 4.6263, 1 1/4" pentagon operating nut and opening by turning counter clockwise (left) . Hydrants shall be constructed with mechanical joint connections unless otherwise specified in bed proposal description. Fire :.hydrants shall be of Traffic Type and provision shall be made for drainage of barrel to protect units from freezing. Fire hydrants .shall be such length as to be suitable for installation with connections to .piping in trenches 3'.6" deep unless otherwise specified. Fire hydrants shall be IOWA or Pacific States. Approval must be obtained prior to bid opening. - COMPOUND METERS: The meters shall be of an all bronze composition and will consist of two registers measuring individually. The by- pass shall be provided with valves so that it may be shut off. without shutting off the mainline in order to facilitate repairs or replacements of the bypass meter. The bypass:. shall continue inoperation at all times when the water is.. passing through the meter. The automatic mainline: valve ' will divert low rates of flow through the bypass, and shall be of the compound -lever type. It shall have a' bronze :. clapper arm; and a. bronze counter weight.Both` shall be designed so that the difference in pressure in which the valve opens shall . not exceed four pounds . per square inch. The clapper shall be made of bronze, suppc t on the clapper arm by a bronze bolt, in such a manner that it is free to rotate - andmay readily align itself. The clapper snall have - a facing ring of resilent rubber to seat ,against 'abronze seat ring which is screwed into the mainline case.:' The compound lever shall be so designed that resistance to open- ing ..decreasessubstantially when the clapper is forced a short distance off from its '.seat. . -- DETECTOR METERS: (Firelineand Domestic Meters) The fireline meter must lie a combination fire and domestic .-meter, which is approved by: -the Underwriters Laboratory, Inc. (UL), and Factory Mutual Laboratory (FM), and the i3 =:.0 Labora- tories of Canada.. The main ine shall consist of gzey galvan- ized cast iron with removafr'l.e bronze compound bypass meter. The bypass meter shall be able to 1 be removed withou`t'interupt- ingservice;to the;mainline'.meter. _ The mainline measuring mechanism shall consist of a;Heflection ring made of bronze;, with a" -nut to hold it i, place =; with a torrent -type interior to meter the water defectedby it. The deflection ring shall have an ;.reside diameter 7/8 tho diameter of the inlet and outlet ofthe mainline. The interior shall.: be calibrated to indicate the quantity of water passed through the mainline; it shall be enclosed by the mainlinecase and a bronze cover fitted onthe mainline case'. DETECTOR CHECK: The external:. casing shall be made 'of grey galvanized cast iron thoroughly galvanized ;inside and - outside. The valve domes and bottom cases shall be boltedtogether with cadmium plated steel bolts and nuts. The detector check shall be a combination of an automatic compound lever valve in themain line and abronze case .disc meter on an external bypass connected to outlets o.� either side of the halve casing by brass or bronze fittings. The external bypass shall have agate valve on the inlet,.side of the bypass m e meter and a :swing check. valve on.. the outlet. side which . permits maintenance Without shutting down the mainline. The mainline check valve shall 'have a rubber facing and the detector check must be fully approved by UL Laboratory, FM Laboratory and ULC Laboratory.
