GENERAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES
1. Pavement demolition notes:
The existing pavement material and depths noted on the plans are based on test borings
and information obtained from city staff based on previous projects. This information
is approximate and is provided to assist the contractor in determining the requirements
for saw cutting and disposal of waste material. Maple Valley Highway, NE 3rd St., and
NE 4th St. have been improved several times, and thus areas exist which may have thicker
sections of paverrlent than shown on the details. The concrete pavement area begins at
station 55 +75_D and proceeds east.
2. Existing utility notes:
a.) Power, Telephone, Gas, and Cable: Existing utility locations are shown on the plans for
the Contractor's information. Locations of these utilities are approximate and are based
on records supplied from each utility. The depth of each of these utilities is shown on the
profile and is based on typical laying depths for each of these utilities. However, the
actual depth is unknown and will vary significantly.
b.) Water: The vertical and horizontal location of the existing water mains as shown
on the plans are approximate and based on discussions with City staff, and a survey of the
existing valve locations.
c.) Storm: The existing storm system within NE 3rd and 4th Streets is extensive;
thus, numerous storm lines could not be accurately located. Locations of crossings identified
on the plans are based on the known location of a nearby storm facility and an assumed slope.
d.) Utility conflicts which may occur during construction shall be resolved in the following manner:
— If the proposed 21" sewer trunk line conflicts with any utility, the utility company shall be
contacted and the Contractor shall coordinate with them to realign the conflicting utility.
— If the proposed 15" and smaller sewer lines conflict with a major utility such as the storm
sewer, the sanitary sewer line shall be realigned as approved by the engineer.
— If the proposed 15" and smaller sewer lines conflict with a minor utility such as power, cable,
gas, and telephone lines, the utility company shall be contacted and the contractor shall
coordinate with the utility company to realign the conflicting utility, unless otherwise approved
by the engineer.
e.) The Contractor shall contact a one —call utility locate service prior to and during construction.
The Contractor shall immediately notify the project engineer and the utility companies when conflicts
occur.

4. Temporary street restoration notes.-
a. The Contractor shall patch all trench cuts at the end of each working day with an asphalt patch,
except for the last section of the trench which can be covered with steel sheets. These patches
shall be compacted with a roller compactor to a density which will provide a smooth, firm surface
for vehicles. The patches shall be maintained daily throughout the duration of the project to
prevent pot holing and ruts from forming. All potholes, ruts, and bumps must be repaired if the
defect exceeds an inch in depth or height. Temporary patches in the driving lines of NE 3rd and NE
4th Streets shall be hot —mix, class B ACP, or hot —mix ATB.
b. At the end of each working week the engineer will inspect the temporary patches. If the temporary
patches do not provide an adequate driving surface, as determined by U engineer, the Contractor
shall install the permanent patch as noted on the detail sheet.
