GENERAL ENGINEERING NOTES
1. ALL PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS CONSTRUCTION SHALL CONFORM TO CITY OF RENTON STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS.
2. WORK SHALL INCLUDE REPLACEMENT OF ALL BROKEN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SIDEWALK, CURB, GUTTER, AND DAMAGED ROADWAY. THIS WORK
SHOULD TAKE PLACE WHEN THERE IS NO FURTHER NEED FOR ENCROACHMENT OF HEAVY EQUIPMENT OVER WALKS AND ROADWAYS AND PRIOR TO
CITY APPROVAL FOR BUILDING OCCUPANCY.
3. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLY WITH ALL LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL SAFETY REGULATIONS PERTAINING TO HIS OPERATIONS.
4. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL DIMENSIONS BEFORE STARTING WORK AND SHALL IMMEDIATELY NOTIFY THE ENGINEER OF ANY DISCREPANCIES.
5. CONTRACTOR AGREES THAT HE SHALL ASSUME SOLE AND COMPLETE RESPONSIBILITY FOR JOB SITE CONDITIONS DURING THE COURSE OF
CONSTRUCTION OF THIS PROJECT, INCLUDING SAFETY OF ALL PERSONS AND PROPERTY; THAT THIS REQUIREMENT SHALL APPLY CONTINUOUSLY AND
NOT BE LIMITED TO NORMAL WORKING HOURS; AND THAT THE CONTRACTOR SHALL DEFINE, INDEMNIFY, AND HOLD THE OWNER AND THE ENGINEER
HARMLESS FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY, REAL OR ALLEGED, IN CONNECTION WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF WORK ON THIS PROJECT.
6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR AND FURNISH, INSTALL, AND MAINTAIN TEMPORARY SIGNS, BRIDGES, BARRICADES, FLAGMEN, AND
OTHER FACILITIES TO ADEQUATELY SAFEGUARD THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND WORK, AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE PROPER ROUTING OF VEHICULAR AND
PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC. CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS SHALL COMPLY WITH THE WORK AREA AND TRAFFIC CONTROL HANDBOOK.
7. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL IMPLEMENT BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES (BMPS) TO ELIMINATE OR MINIMIZE POLLUTION DISCHARGE CAUSED BY
CONSTRUCTION.
8. WHERE THE PLANS OR SPECIFICATIONS DESCRIBE PORTIONS OF THE WORK IN GENERAL TERMS BUT NOT IN COMPLETE DETAIL, IT IS UNDERSTOOD
THAT ONLY THE BEST GENERAL PRACTICE IS TO PREVAIL AND THAT ONLY MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP OF HIGH QUALITY ARE TO BE USED.
9. PRIOR TO FINAL APPROVAL AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE WORK THE CONTRACTOR WILL BE REQUIRED TO CLEAN AND REPAIR ON AND OFF -SITE
ROADWAYS, CURBS, AND SIDEWALKS USED DURING THE COURSE OF THEIR CONSTRUCTION.
10. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR LOCATING ALL VALVES, MANHOLES AND BLOW OFFS IN ADVANCE OF CONSTRUCTION AND REPLACING SAME
TO FINISHED GRADE.
11. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROTECTION OF ALL EXISTING SURVEY MONUMENTS OR MARKERS DURING CONSTRUCTION.
CONTRACTOR SHALL REPLACE DESTROYED OR DAMAGED MONUMENTS AT HIS EXPENSE.
12. PRIOR TO TRENCHING FOR ANY SEWER, WATER, OR STORM DRAINPIPE, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY, IN THE FIELD, THE SIZE AND LOCATION OF
THE EXISTING PIPE AT THE POINT OF CONNECTION. THE DESIGN ENGINEER PRIOR TO TRENCHING SHALL RESOLVE ANY DEVIATION FROM THE PLANS.
13. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN ALL EXISTING DRAINAGE AND SEWER FACILITIES WITHIN THE CONSTRUCTION AREA UNTIL NEW DRAINAGE AND
SEWER IMPROVEMENTS ARE INSTALLED, INSPECTED, AND FUNCTIONING.
14. LINES AND GRADES: ALL DISTANCES AND MEASUREMENTS ARE GIVEN AND MADE IN A HORIZONTAL PLANE UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE.
15. HORIZONTAL DIMENSIONS ON PLANS AND PROFILES FOR PIPES, CATCH BASINS, MANHOLES, AND OTHER FACILITIES ARE TO THE CENTERLINES OF
THOSE FACILITIES UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE. PIPE LENGTHS ARE MEASURED HORIZONTALLY.
16. CONTRACTOR SHALL LOCATE, PRESERVE, SUPPORT, AND MAINTAIN ALL FACILITIES INCLUDING GAS, WATER, IRRIGATION, SEWER, POWER, STREETLIGHTS,
TELEPHONE AND OTHERS WHICH MAY BE IN THE AREA OF CONSTRUCTION. RESPECTIVE UTILITY COMPANIES SHALL BE NOTIFIED PRIOR TO
COMMENCEMENT OF WORK.
