ORDINANCE NO. 4663
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, RESCINDING
SUBSECTION 2-9-4 .D, AMENDING SUBSECTION 2-9-4 .E AND
SECTION 2-9-6 OF CHAPTER 9, PARK COMMISSION, OF TITLE II
(COMMISSIONS AND BOARDS) , OF ORDINANCE NO. 4260 ENTITLED
"CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON" CLARIFYING THE POWERS OF THE BOARD AND
AMENDING SECTIONS TO CONFORM WITH THE CURRENT
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND A CHANGE IN TITLES.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I . Subsection 2-9-4 .0 of Chapter 9, Park
Commission, of Title II (Commissions and Boards) , of Ordinance No.
4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton,
Washington" is hereby rescinded.
SECTION II . Section 2-9-4 .E of Chapter 9, Park Commission,
of Title II (Commissions and Boards) , of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled
"Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton, Washington" is
hereby amended to read as follows :
E. Said Board is further authorized to grant concessions and
privileges herein, under such restrictions, and for such
compensation as it shall prescribe, and any monies or properties
paid thereunder shall forthwith be turned over to the Finance and
Information Services Director and such revenue shall be used for
park purposes only, it being understood that any party aggrieved by
the Board in granting or denying such concession and privileges
shall have the right of appeal to the Council within thirty (30)
days of such action by the Board; provided, further, that no

concession or privilege shall ever be granted for the sale of
intoxicating liquors, alcohol, spirits, wine or beer in any public
place. No concession shall be granted for a period of more than
five (5) years, unless authorized by the Board, with the right for
an extension for an additional five (5) year period of time, should
the Board deem it advisable, and then only upon condition that the
concessionaire fulfill all conditions and provisions of the original
five (5) year concession contract.
SECTION III . Section 2-9-6 of Chapter 9, Park Commission, of
Title II (Commissions and Boards) of Ordinance No . 4260 entitled
"Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton, Washington" is
hereby amended to read as follows :
2-9-6: APPOINTMENT, QUALIFICATIONS, DUTIES, PARK DIRECTOR
AND RECREATION DIRECTOR:
A. The Board of Park Commissioners, in conjunction with the
Community Services Administrator, shall have the power to recommend
one or more qualified candidates for the positions of Parks Director
and Recreation Director to the Mayor for consideration for an
appointment to that position. The Mayor shall appoint a candidate
to the position of Parks Director or Recreation Director, or may
reject the recommendations of the Board of Park Commissioners, and
ask for additional names to be submitted. The Mayor shall not
appoint a Parks Director or Recreation Director without that
individual ' s name having been recommended by the Board of Park
Commissioners . The person that the Mayor appoints to the position

of Parks Director or Recreation Director shall be subject to
confirmation by the City Council .
B. The qualifications and duties for the positions of Parks
Director and Recreation Director shall be established by the Human
Resources Department of the City with the concurrence of the Board
of Park Commissioners .
C. The Parks Director or Recreation Director may serve as an
ex officio member of the Park Commission but shall have no vote
thereon.
D. The salaries of the Parks Director and Recreation Director
shall be as fixed in the annual budget of the City.
SECTION IV. This Ordinance shall be effective upon its
passage, approval, and thirty days after publication.
