RESOLUTION NO. 3434
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
OPPOSING THE PROPOSAL TO REROUTE AIR TRAFFIC FROM
SEATTLE-TACOMA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OVER RENTON.
WHEREAS, there has been advanced a proposal to reroute air traffic from Seattle-
Tacoma International Airport over the east side of Renton; and
WHEREAS, such rerouting of air traffic would result in more noise for Renton residents;
and
WHEREAS, rerouting the air traffic would require low altitude 180 degree turns which
are less safe than current turning movements; and
WHEREAS, the low altitude 180 degree turns also require higher thrust levels on the
engines, resulting in greater engine noise than the current turning movements; and
WHEREAS, the City of Renton's own airport already creates a level of aircraft noise,
particularly when the Boeing aircraft manufactured in Renton are flown out of the Renton
Municipal Airport; and
WHEREAS, the City of Renton additionally experiences considerable airport noise from
flights leaving the King County Regional Airport (Boeing Field), with a particularly high degree
of noise being experienced when 727 air freighters, which are not retrofitted with hush kits, fly
out of the King County Regional Airport;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and correct in all respects.
