ORDINANCE NO. 47 9 2
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING SECTIONS 6-1-2 OF CHAPTER 1, ABANDONED
VEHICLES, AND 6-14-2, OF CHAPTER 14, LITTER, OF TITLE VI
(POLICE REGULATIONS), AND SUBSECTION 10-5-2.B.2 OF CHAPTER
5, IMPOUNDMENT AND REDEMPTION OF VEHICLES, OF TITLE X
(TRAFFIC), OF ORDINANCE NO. 4260 ENTITLED "CODE OF
GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON"
RELATING TO WARRANTS FOR ENTRY UPON PRIVATE PROPERTY
TO REMOVE JUNK VEHICLES AND VEHICLE PARTS.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. The title of section 6-1-2 of Chapter 1, Abandoned Vehicles, of Title VI
(Police Regulations), of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of
Renton, Washington" is hereby amended to read as follows:
6-1-2: JUNK VEHICLE OR VEHICLE HULKS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY
REGULATED.
SECTION II. Subsections 6-1-2.A and F of Chapter 1, Abandoned Vehicles, of Title VI
(Police Regulations), of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of
Renton, Washington" are hereby amended to read as follows:
6-1-2.A: The storage or retention of junk, wrecked, dismantled or inoperative
vehicles or vehicle hulks on private property in the City is hereby declared to be a public nuisance
and shall be removed in accordance with this Chapter.
6-1-2.F: Disposal: After notice has been given by the Building Official of the City
to dispose of a vehicle or vehicle hulk, and no request for a hearing is received, or a hearing is
held and the Building Official orders the vehicles removed, the said vehicle or vehicle hulk or part
thereof shall be removed from private property by the Chief of Police and disposed of to a

licensed auto wrecker with notice to the Washington State Patrol and the State of Washington
Department of Licenses that such vehicle or vehicle hulk has been wrecked.
SECTION III. Section 6-1-2 of Chapter 1, Abandoned Vehicles, of Title VI
(Police Regulations), of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of
Renton, Washington" is hereby amended by adding a new section G and renumbering the
remaining subsections:
6-1-2.G: Warrants for Entry: Whenever it is necessary to enter upon private
property to remove the vehicles pursuant to ordinance, ruling or holding by the Building Official,
any authorized official of the City may apply for a warrant authorizing the entry upon such
property to carry out the same, if permission to enter has been refused by the owner, or if the
owner cannot be found or reasonably ascertained. The application for the warrant shall be
supported by an affidavit or the testimony of the officer or any other authorized City official
intending to enter upon the property stating his office, purpose and authority to so enter, the
owner's refusal to permit such entry or the owner's unavailability, the work, action or other
activity to be conducted on the property and by whom and the approximate time that the activity
will be conducted. If the Court finds just cause for the issuance of the warrant, it shall subscribe
the same with a return date of not more than ten days following completion of the action or
activity to be conducted upon the property.
SECTION IV. Section 6-14-2, Definitions, of Chapter 14, Litter, of Title VI
(Police Regulations), of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of
Renton, Washington" is hereby amended by changing the following definition:

REFUSE: All putrescible and nonputrescible solid wastes (except body wastes),
including garbage, rubbish ashes, street cleanings, dead animals, motor vehicle parts, and solid
market and industrial wastes.
SECTION V. Subsection 10-5-2.B.2 of Chapter 5, Impoundment and Redemption of
Vehicles, of Title X (Traffic) of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the
City of Renton, Washington" is hereby amended to read as follows:
Such vehicle is a junk or abandoned vehicle as defined in Renton Municipal Code section
6-1-1.
SECTION VI. This ordinance shall be effective upon its passage, approval, and 30
days after publication.
