AGREEMENT FOR SHARING INFORMATION
The Washington State Department of Revenue and City of Renton agree
that the sharing of information is in the best interest of the
citizens of the State of Washington. The Department of Revenue is
authorized by Chapter 82 . 32, RCW to share such information with the
Finance Department of the City of Renton with the understanding
that any shared information is subject to the confidentiality
provisions of RCW 82 . 32 .330 and Renton City Ordinance No. 4378.
Therefore, The Department of Revenue and the City of Renton
represented by the undersigned officials hereby agree that the
Department and the City Finance Department will share information
with one another, and that the agents, employees, officers, or any
other person associated with either entity acquiring knowledge of
such information will be subject to the entire provisions of RCW
82.32 .330 and shall act in accordance with the following
conditions:
1. For the purposes of this agreement "information" shall
mean (i) a taxpayer's identity, (ii) the nature, source,
or amount of the taxpayer's income, payments, receipts,
deductions, exemptions, credits, assets, liabilities, net
worth, tax liability deficiencies, overassessments, or
tax payments, whether taken from the taxpayer's books and
records or any other source, (iii) whether the taxpayer's
return was, is being, or will be examined or subject to
other investigation or processing, and (iv) other data
received by, recorded by, prepared by, furnished to, or
collected by the Department of Revenue or the City of
Renton with respect to the determination of the
existence, or possible existence, of liability, or the
amount thereof, of a person under the laws of this state
for a tax, penalty, interest, fine, forfeiture, or other
imposition, or offense. "Taxpayer identity" shall mean
the taxpayer's name, address, telephone number,
registration number, or any combination thereof, or any
other information disclosing the identity of the
taxpayer.
2. Information may be shared in written form or
telephonically. In either case each entity shall take
all reasonable means necessary to restrict access to tax
information obtained pursuant to this agreement to those
persons designated, in writing, to receive such
information by either the Director of the Department of
Revenue or the City of Renton Finance Director.
3. Neither entity shall share any information obtained
through this agreement with any organization or person
not authorized to request and receive information. Each
entity agrees to furnish the other, no less frequently
than once a year, a complete list of persons authorized
to request and receive information from the other.
This agreement is not limited to a specific period of time or to
specific tax returns, documents, records or other information
relating to any specific years or periods; it will be considered to
be in effect until revoked by one entity or the other.
Changes may be made in this agreement at any time by the mutual
agreement of the signatories or their successors and shall be
signed and appended to this document.
