RESOLUTION NO. 3202
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
CONCURRING IN THE MAYOR'S ESTABLISHMENT OF A SPECIAL TASK
FORCE ON GATEWAYS AND IMAGE FOR THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON.
WHEREAS, the Mayor has been working with citizens to seek ways
to upgrade the image of the City; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Renton Chamber of Commerce has made the
improvement of the City' s image a priority for the past three
years; and
WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce approached the Mayor to
request the , establishment of a Special Task Force on Gateways and
Image; and
WHEREAS, the Special Task Force would work with citizens,
community groups and business volunteers to enhance and improve the
image of the City at key intersections and arterials; and
WHEREAS, improving the image of the City creates a benefit for
all the residents of Renton by increasing property values; and
WHEREAS, the Special Task Force would act as a liaison between
the City and the community for the purpose of developing priorities
for gateway and arterial enhancement;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS :

SECTION I . The above recitals are found to be true and
correct in all respects .
SECTION II. The City of Renton seeks to enhance its image
and promote civic pride and, to that end, concurs in the Mayor' s
establishment of a Special Task Force on Gateways and Image with
the guidelines and criteria set forth on Attachment A.

ATTACHMENT A
Section 1 . Statement of Objectives .
To use the combined efforts and resources of citizens,
businesses and the City that create activities or projects
that beautify, highlight and enhance the physical appearance
and image of Renton.
Section 2 . Membership Criteria.
Task Force members shall be appointed by the Mayor. Members
shall be business or community leaders and reside within the
City or have an affiliation with a business in the greater
Renton area.
Section 3 . Staffing.
Administrative staffing shall be the responsibility of the
Chamber of Commerce . Technical assistance for specific
projects or for the development of design standards shall be
provided by City of. Renton staff . All projects will be
reviewed by staff before implementation.
Section 4 . Responsibilities .
A. Work with City staff to develop standards for gateway
signage, landscaping and streetscape for Council adoption.
B. Create a public awareness campaign to promote the concept
of adopting an area such as an arterial, block, intersection
or park to improve and maintain. Organize cleanup restoration
and beautification projects .
C. Recruit volunteer groups, businesses and organizations to
participate in this program.
D. Recommend projects to be implemented.
E. Keep an updated inventory of areas available for adoption
and match with volunteers .
F. Report progress to the City Council on a regular basis .
