RESOLUTION NO. 3119
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, URGING THE BOEING COMPANY TO MAINTAIN A
STRONG PRESENCE IN RENTON.
WHEREAS, The Boeing Company has had a long term relationship
with the City of Renton, with Renton currently being the home of
the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group, the Customer Service Training
Center and manufacturing lines and support staff for the 737 and
757 aircrafts; and
WHEREAS, The Boeing Company and Renton have developed a strong
public/private partnership to responsibly and efficiently permit
and develop such projects as the Customer Service Training Center,
737-X Program and, in the future, Longacres Office Park; and
WHEREAS, the City of Renton has made significant commitments
to infrastructure improvements that reflect its commitment to
Boeing including traffic - improvements on Oakesdale, Houser Way and
Park Avenue; and
WHEREAS, The Boeing Company needs to maintain a strong
presence in Renton because of Renton' s central location to Sea Tac
Airport, Boeing Field, the FAA, the Customer Service Training
Center and existing Boeing infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, many Boeing employees live in Renton or in areas
south of Renton making any relocation and commuting a hardship and
disruption on Boeing employees; and
WHEREAS, any movement of Boeing employees from Renton would
result in hardship and disruption to the rest of the residents in
the region because of additional congestion caused by longer and

more difficult commutes resulting in additional traffic on the
roads; and
WHEREAS, centralization of work sites by The Boeing Company
will result in longer commutes which will be contrary to the intent
of the Commute Trip Reduction Act; and
WHEREAS, there are advantages to maintaining diversified work
sites within the Puget Sound region such that major layoffs or
increases in employment will not unnecessarily impact one
community; and
WHEREAS, losses in employment would diminish the City' s
business license tax, property values, utility tax, and indirect
taxes gained from sales to employees, all to the detriment of the
City' s financial integrity; and
WHEREAS, the City of. Renton is willing to meet with The Boeing
Company and explore possible alternatives to moving employees or
manufacturing lines from the City of Renton;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and
correct in all respects .
SECTION II. The City Council of the City of Renton,
Washington, urges The Boeing Company to maintain a strong presence
in Renton and not relocate employees or manufacturing lines to
other sites .
SECTION III. The City Council stands ready, willing, and
able to meet with Boeing to discuss its business needs and

requirements and those public policy decisions that would assist
Boeing in maintaining a strong presence in Renton.
