RESOLUTION NO. 2476
WHEREAS the Legislature of the State of Washington adopted
legislation during the Regular Session of the 47th State Legislature
substantially liberalizing the fireworks control within the State
of Washington; and
WHEREAS a significant amount of illegal fireworks are
purchased on Indian Reservations for use within the City of Renton
contrary to the provisions of State law and the City Code of the City
of Renton ; and
WHEREAS the liberalization of fireworks control legislation
and the use of illegal fireworks purchased on Indian Reservations
has resulted in a significant increase in incidents of nuisance
and damage sustained by citizens of the City of Renton due to more

powerful fireworks being available for sale to and use by the general
public within the City of Renton; now therefore
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I : The above recitals are found to be true and
correct in all respects .
SECTION II : The City Council of the City of Renton hereby
recommends that the Legislature of the State of Washington consider
and adopt legislation repealing the provisions of Chapter 230 , Laws
of 1982 adopted at the Regular Session of the 47th Legislature .
SECTIO14 III : The City Council of the City of Renton further
recommends that the Legislature of the State of Washington re-enact
the provisions of the "safe and sane" fireworks regulations previously
existing before the adoption of Chapter 230, Laws of 1982 .
SECTION IV: The City Council of the City of Renton recommends
that the Legislature of the State of Washington review and adopt
legal means for regulation by the State of Washington of sales
of fireworks on Indian Reservations to persons for use off of the
Indian Reservation and including within the City of Renton; and

that the Legislature of the State of Washington adopt legislation
implementing any such restrictions which may be found to be practical
and legal .
SECTION V: The Clerk is directed to forward certified
copies of this Resolution to Governor Spellman, Lt . Governor John
Cherberg , as President of the Senate , Representative William Polk
as Speaker of the house of Representatives , the Clerks of the Senate
and the house of Representatives of the State of Washington , Tom
Brace , State Fire Marshall and Chief Mike Brown, Association of Fire
Chiefs .
