HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 3577 t Amends Ord. #3086 OAS 3 66-� ©`e® 3/-7 7-3 CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTO ORDINANCE NO . 3577 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON AMENDING A PORTION OF SECTION 5-104 OF TITLE V (BUSINESS REGULATIONS) OF ORDINANCE NO. 1628 ENTITLED "CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF RENTON" RELATING TO TAX ON PUBLIC UTILITIES THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON , WASHINGTON DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS : SECTION I : Existing subsections 1 and 5 of Section 5-104 (A) of Title V (Business Regulations) of Ordinance No . 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton" are hereby amended as follows : Section 5-104 (A) 1 . , as amended: Upon any telephone business there shall be levied a tax equal to 7 .75% of the total gross operating revenues , including revenues from intrastate toll , derived from the operation of such businesses within the City of Renton. Gross operating revenues for this purpose shall not include charges which are passed on to the subscribers by a telephone company pursuant to tariffs required by regulatory order to .compensate for the cost to the company of the tax imposed by this ordinance . "Telephone Business" means the business of providing access to a local telephone network , local telephone network switching service , toll service , or coin telephone services , or providing service , toll service , or coin telephone services , or providing telephonic , video , data or similar communication or transmission for hire , via a local telephone network, toll line or channel , or similar communication or transmission system. It includes cooperative or farmer line telephone companies or associations operating an exchange . "Telephone business" does not include the providing of competitive telephone service , nor the providing of cable television service . "Competitive telephone service" means the providing by any person of telephone equipment , apparatus , or service ., other than toll service , which is of a type which can be provided by persons that are not subject to regulation as telephone companies under Title 80 RCW and for which a separate charge is made . Section 5-104 (A) 5 . , as amended: Upon every person engaging in or carrying on the business of constructing, operating and maintaining a coaxial cable subscriber system for television, radio and other audio-visual electrical signal distribution throughout the City of Renton or any part thereof , a fee or tax equal to three (3%) percent of the total gross income from such business in the City during the tax year for which a license is required. SECTION II : This Ordinance shall be effective on and after January 1 , 1982 and after its passage , approval and thirty (30) days following legal publication.
