RESOLUTION NO. 2120
WHEREAS considerable progress has been made in carrying out the
national telephone philosophy which Congress expressed in the
Communications Act of 1934 to make available as far as possible , to
all the people of the United States, a rapid, efficient, nation-wide
wire and radio communications service with adequate facilities at
reasonable charges ; and
WHEREAS recent decisions of the Federal Communications Commission
endanger this progress by introducing competitive practices which
stand to benefit the big business telephone users at the expense of
the residential and rural users ; and
WHEREAS these decisions by the F . C. C. are an improper invasion
of the power of Congress to set national policy; NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
RENTON AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I: The above facts and recitals are hereby found to
be true and correct.
SECTION II : The City of Renton herewith endorses and supports
HR 3759 and similar bills which in effect re-state and re-adopt the
original intent of Congress as specified in the Communications Act
of 1934, and provide that Congress shall forthwith study the issues
and make necessary decisions providing for a National Policy and
immediate reversal and modification of any F. C. C. introduced practices
that may adversely affect the consumer ' s price for local telephone
service, or endanger the integrity of the nationwide telephone network.
SECTION III: A certified copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted
by the City Clerk to Congressmen Jack Cunningham and other members of the
State ' s Congressional delegation, as well as the appropriate Committees
of Congress studying this matter.
