RESOLUTTON N0. 1855
WHEREAS the City of Renton, Washington �,s a Non-chaxter
Code City under .the laws and statutes of the State of [nTashington
operating under the Mayor-Council form of governmen.t as set forth.
in Chapter 35A. 12, and
WHEREAS the 43rd Regular .Legislative Sessi;on of. the State
of Washington passed and approved Senate Bill No. 2190 granti;ng unto
non-charter co.de cities, among other,. the powers of initiat�ve and
refereridum and permitting the quali.fied .elect.ors of a non-charte�
code city to exerc�se said .powers of initiative and referendum. upon
electing so to do in the manner provided for changi.ng the class.�ficati,on
of a ci.ty to to�rn as set forth in RCIni 35A. 02 , 020 , 35A. 02 . 025 , 35A. 02. 030
and 35A. 02 . 035, .and
[�IHEREAS the City Council of the City of Renton hereby elects
to �roceed under RCinI 35A. 02 . 030 by the resolution method, NOW
THERE F 0 RE
BE IT RE.SOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CZTY COUNCZL OF THE
C�TY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AS FOI.�LOtnIS ;
SECTTON `Z: The above rec.itals and findings axe hereby
four�d to be true and correct in all respects .
SECTION II : In pursuance of Senate Bill No.: 2190 , �assed
and approved by the 43rd Re.gular Legislati.ve Session of. the .State of
Washington, the City Council hereby elects to adopt, as a non-charter
code city,. the provisions set forth in said Bill �and thus by this
Resolution declares .its. intent to ado.pt for the City of Renton the
powers of initiative and referendum, substantially as set forth in
said Senate Bill No. 2190.

SECTION TTT : The City Cl.erk i.s hereby authorized and
directed, within 10 days after the passage of. this Resol.ution,. to
publish same at least once in theCity' s. designated legal pub,lication.
U�on the expiration of the 9O.th day from, but: excluding. .the. date of
first .publication of this Resolution, if no timelyand su�ficient
xeferendum petition has been filed, then thereupon the Ci,ty Council
may adopt an Ordinance providing for the po�rers of initiative and '
referendum.
a• Any such Ordinance shall provide that all ordin_ances
of the City of Re.nton thereafter adopted shall not .go into ef�ect before
30 days from the time of final passage and same would be subject to
refereridum during the interim except : .

6. Ordinances provi.di.ng for. tI-Le compensation of or
�rorking condi.tions� of City employees ; and
"7 . Ordinances authorizing or repealirig the levy of �
taxes;
