RESOLUTION NO. �g`�
WHEREAS John L. Fournier, Sr. has been the publisher of a
Renton newspaper for 23 years and was publisher and co-owner of
the Renton Record-Chronicle until his untimely death last week, and
WHEREAS his publications were dedicated to the development and
improvement of Renton and the Green River Valley and generous news
coverage and support has always been given to city and school bond
issues and other public improvements and has always been a positive
force in moving the City of Renton ahead, and
WHEREAS John L. Fournier, Sr. has been active in civic and
community affairs and has spoken out for local, regional, and
national programs and projects which he felt were beneficial to
all of the people of Renton, and
WHEREAS the Fournier Newspapers, winners of hundreds of state
and national honors, have been one of locally owned and operated
businesses adding to the local economy. and payrolls; NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF RENTON, WASHINGTON:
SECTION I : The Mayor and City Council of the City of Renton
do hereby set aside the day of Wednesday, September 20 , 1972 , as a
day of tribute to an outstanding local businessman and community
leader and call on all citizens to recognize the accomplishments of
John L. Fournier, Sr. as a newspaper publisher and civic leader.
