AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AbiENDING
SECTION 2-7-2 OF CHAPTER 7, H�bIAN RIGHTS AND AFFAIRS
COb�IISSION, OF �TITLE II (CObmIISSIONS AND BOARDS) , OF
ORDINANCE NO. 4260 ENTITLED "CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES
OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON" BY ADDING A NEW
SUBSFsCTION WHIC� ADDS TWO. ALTERNATE CObmlISSIONERS TO THE
"H[TMAN RIGHTS AND AFFAIRS COMMISSION AND TSTABLISHING THE
' ALTERNATE COMbIISSIONERS RIGHT TO VOTE.
THE C.ITY. COUNCIL OF THE CITY_ OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN I�'
AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I. Section 2-7-2 of Chapter 7, Human Rights and ,
Affairs Commission, of Title II (Commissions and Boards) , of
Ordinance No...4260 entitled "Code of General� Orclinances of the City
of Renton, Washington�� is, hereby amended by adding subsection D
which reads as follows :
2-7-2 .D: ; There. shall be two. alternate commissioners appointed
by the Mayor; subject to confirmation or concurrence by the
majority of the City Council to serve for a period of two (2)
years . Each such alternate member shall serve until his or her
successor has been appointed and qualified. Vacancies shall be
filled and members removed under the same process as regular
members of the commission. Alternate commissioners shall take the
place of and act as a regular member of the commission when a '
regular member of the commission is unavailable for a meeting or
when there is an unfilled vacancy on the commission through ',
removal, resignation, death or otherwise. An alternate
commissioner sitting as a regular commissioner shall have the same
rights to vote as does a regular member of the commission. Should
there be a need for an alternate commissioner to serve as a regular �I

commissioner, � the two alternate commissioners shall be contacted to
determine their availability. Should both alternate commissioners
be available and desire to serve, then the commissioner who has not
last served as a regular commissioner shall serve. If neither
alternate � commissioner has served as a regular commissioner and
both are available to serve, then the alternate commissioner to
serve as a regular commissioner shall be chosen by lot . Once an
� alternate commissioner is seated to serve as a regular I
� commissioner, then that alternate commissioner shall continue to
sit until the specific topic or issue has been resolved.
SECTION II . This Ordinance shall be effective upon its
passage, approval, and thirty days after its publication.
