CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON
ORDINANCE NO. 4464
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AMENDING
SECTIONS 4-20-12.A AND 4-20-12.0 OF CHAPTER 20, SIGN CODE,
OF TITLE IV (BUILDING REGULATIONS) , OF ORDINANCE NO. 4260
ENTITLED "CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
RENTON, WASHINGTOAT" RELATING TO SIGNS FOR LARGE SCALE
RETAIL BUSINESSES.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. Section 4-20-12 .A of Chapter 20, Sign Code, of
Title IV (Building Regulatioris) , of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled
"Code of Gen.eral Ordinances of the City of Renton, Washington" is
hereby ._amended to �read :as .follows :
4-20-12.A: LAND USE ZONES:
A. General: All signs are further .limited and restricted as.
to height, clearance, s.ize, type, copy, design and location in the
land use zones as such land use zones are defined and established by
Chapter 31, Zoning, Title IV (Building Regulations) , Code of General
Ordinances of the City, as amended, or any other ordinance
pertaining to or regulating zoning. Only those signs specifically �
designated are permitted; all others are prohibited. In those zones
which do not have a height limitation, the height limitation for
free-standing, projecting and combination signs shall be forty feet
(40 ' ) ; wall signs may exceed this limitation and roof signs may
extend twenty feet (20 ' ) above the parapet wall . This section shall
not apply to those signs covered by section 4-20-12 .C. 8 .

SECTION II. Section 4-20-12 .0 of Chapter 20, Sign Code, of
Title IV (Building Regulations) , of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled
"Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton, Washington" is
hereby amended by changing subsection 3 and by adding subsection 8
which reads as follows : �
4-20-12.C.3: Wall Signs . In addition to the signs in
subsections C. 1, C.2 and C. 8, wall signs are permitted with a total
copy area not exceeding twenty percent (20�) of the building facade
to which it is applied.
4-20-12.C.8: Whenever any one ownership of property dedicated
primarily to retail sales has over 450, 000 square feet in developed
property, or potentially dedicated to retail sales and proposing to �
commence such retail sales, whether or not separated by dedicated
publ�ic streets, but . not otherwise separated by intervening
_.ownerships, may install, in lieu of signage permitted under section
4-20-12 .C. 2, oversized signs as follows :
a. One on-premises free-standing sign not to exceed 60
feet in height and 700 square feet per face, and another such sign
not to exceed 40 feet in height and 400 square feet per face.
b. One roof mounted sign per building of up to 400
square feet not to exceed 20 ' in height above the parapet wall and
not to exceed two such signs per retail center.
c. Two on-premises free-standing signs per street
frontage, no more than 8 feet tall and no more than 100 square feet
per side. �
SECTION I�II. This ordinance shall be effective upon its II
passage, approval, anci thirty clays after publication.
