HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 1701 � � r �� r � ' � 1 � J RESOLUTION N0. �7�� WHEREAS the City of Renton heretofore passed and adopted Ordinance No. 2536 under date of January 12 , 1970 providing for the �, adoption of the Optional Municipal Code under the classification of , Non-charter Code City as specified in Title 35A of the Revised Code ' , of Washington, and simultaneously therewith also passed and adopted I Ordinance No. 2537 providing for the re-organization of its municipal ' government by adoption of the Mayor-Council plan as provided for in ', Chapter 35A. 12 and I', WHEREAS the effective date of reclassification and re- organization will be upon the certification by the County Auditor of the successful candidates for the offices established under such re- organized system of government , to-wit : on or about November 3 , 1970 , and WHEREAS the City of Renton is desirous of providing at the appropriate time for the rights of initiative and referendum in addition to the authority granted in RCW 35A. 29 . 170 , NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AS FG:.�LOWS : SECTION I : The aforestated fir�dings are hereby found to be true and correct in all respects . SECTION II : The City of Renton hereby declares its intention to provide for the rights of Initiative and Referendum upon the effective date of reclassification and reorganization under the Optional Municipal Code and therefore petitions the Legislature of the State of Washington to act with all deliberate speed to implement said Optional Municipal Code so as to permit non-charter code cities to provide for initiative and referendum petitions in addition to those specified in P.CW 35A. 29 . 170 . Non-charter Code cities shall likewise have the right to determine the type of ordinances that shall not be subject to Referendum.
