AN ORDINANCE OF THE CI Y OF RENTON, WASHING'h�N pROVIDING
FOR PARTICIPATION BY THE CITY IN THE DEVELOP`1�IENT AND
EXECUTION OF PROGRAMS FQR TH8 ELIMINATION OF POVERTY
UNDER THE FEDF�2AL ECL)NOMIC OPPORTUNITY ACT of 1964
{(PUBLIC I�AW 88-452) AND PARTICIPATING IN THfi SEATTLE-
KING COUN1`Y ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY BOARD.
WHEREAS it has been deterrained that poverty and social and economic conditions
creating poverty exist in the Seattle-King County area; and
WNEREAS the CiLy of Benton, together with other cities and ICing County cae
provide opportunity for rehabilitation, education, training attd work experience which
will tend to eli�inate poverty and the caq�tes thereof, and Federal f inancial assistance
under the Econo�ic Opportunity Act of i964 being available for such purposes; and
WHEREAS the City of Seattle, together with King County. and other co�munities
are interested in the establishraent of an econo�►ic opportunity board to assist in
developr�ent and execution of such a progra� and to provide for the icapleeientation thereof;
NOGJ THEI2EFORE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAXOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF TElE CITY OF REN7C}�l AS
FOLIAWS:
SECTION I: The City of �enton, by and through its executive depart�ent,
hereby agrees to participate in the aforesaid prograca and to assist� in the preparation
' of the co�prehensive coe�munity action program for the mobilization anc3 utili2ation of
� public and private resources to provide services, assistance and other activities o£
sufficient scope and size to give promise of progress taward eii.�ination of poverty
and the canses thereof through the development of employment opportunities. the
iraprovecaent of hur�an performance� motivation and productivity, or bettering the eonditions
under which people live, learn and work artd which prograca will be developed� conducted
and administered with the maximum feasible participation of resi.dents of this city
and others; to conduct research and studies for the greparation of such cocuaunity
action program and for the continued evaluation of that prograr� and component parts
thereof while in operation; to receive, approve and review from time to time proposals
from others for component parts of the com�unity action prograca and such other proposals
as �ay be submitted pursuant to the Econotnic Opportunity AcC of 1964 or the regula tions
adopted thereunder or contracts made pursuant thereto, and to assist in the aubmission
of such proposal to Lhe Federal OEfice �f Economic Opportunity or such other ageacy
as may be required by law; to enter into such contracts on behalf of the City of Renton�
after approval thereo€ by the City Council � and as may be authorized by ordinance; with I'
the United States or any of its agencies. the State of Washington or any of its ageacies,
any local governmental unit, or any private non-profit group, organization or corp-
oration to receive and disburse moneys for the purpose of coordinating and carrying

out the coc�unity action program or any cocuponent part there��; aad to participate ia
the conduct and administration or operation �f such component parts of such program
or other prograc�s under the aforesaid Sconomit Opportunity Act oE 2964 as may hereafter
be authorized by ordinance from tiute to time:
SECTION II: It is hereby determined that the Mayor be desi.gnated a9 the
� City's representative and member on the Seattle - King County Economic Opportunity
Board as heretofore established by the Gity of Seattle and Che County of King; and
the i�tayor to report to the Couacil from tine to time on the progress and action taken
by said Economic Opportunity Board.
