SECTION 6-177 of TITLE VI (POL CE REGULATIONS) OF O�2DIt�IANCE
N�. 1628 ENT`ITLED "CODE OF GENE�QL ORDINANCES OF Ti3E CI1Y
OF REN'I�ON" by deleting sub-saction, (8) thereof� establ ishing
a new section entitled 6--177 A of sa,id Title relating to
public safety and morals. '

SECTION I:�Existing sub�section C8) of Section 6-177 of Title VI (Police Re-
gulations) of Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "C�de of General Ordinances of the City of
Renton" is hereby repealed. All other sub-sections of Section 6-177 st�ll remain in
fsll force and effect and shall be renumbered and redesignated by reason of the afore-
, said deletion of sub-section (8).
SECfiION Ii: There is hereby established acri crea�ed a new section entitled
6-377 A of Tit2e VI (Police Reg,ulations) o� Ordinance No. iG28 entitled �Code of Ge-
neral Ordinances of the City of Renton" reading as follows:
Section 6-177 A
1. 47ANDERING 02 PROWLING. Any person who wa�ers or prowls in a
' place, at a time, �r in a manner aad under circumstances, which
manifest an unlawful purpose or which warrant alarm for the sa.-
fety of persons or property in the vicinity is hereby declared
to be a vagrant.
2, Among the circumstances which may be considered as manifesting
such an unlawful purpose or warranting aiarm for the safety of
persons or property� for purposes of this section, are:
(a) flight by a person upon the appearance oE a police or other
peace officer; (b3 refusaZ to identify himself to such police
or peace officer; (c) an attempt by such person to concea2 hi.m-
self �r any object from such officer.
3. N� arrest shall be made under this section, nor shall any person
be convicted of an offense under this section� unless t�e police
or peace officer affords an opportunity for a person suspected
of violating this secti�n to dispel any aZarm which would other-
caise be warranted by requesting such person to identify himself,
and expla in his presence a nd conduct, unless flight by the sus-
' pected violator, or other similar circumstance, �kes it impractical `
for the police or other peace officer to afford him such an op-
portunity. No person shall be convicted of an of€ense under this
section i� it appears at the trial that the explanation given by
the suspected violator was true and� if believed by the police or
peace officer at the time, would have dispelled the alarm.
SECTION III: Any ordinances or parts uf ordinances in c�nflict herewith are here-
by repealed.
SECTION IV: If any provision, section, sub-section, garagraph, clause or part
of this Ordinance shall be held void or unconstitutional, the remainder of this Or-
dinance shall not be affected thereby, but ail other pr�visions, sections, sub-sections,

paragraphs, clauses or parts of this Ordinance not expressly so held to be void or un-
constitutional shall continue and rema in in full f�rce and effect.
SECTION V: This Ordinance shall be in full force acd effect from and after its
Passage, approval ar� legal publication.
