WASHINGTON, AMENDING SECTIONS 4-1902 ,
4-1903 AND 4-1918 OF TITLE IV (BUILDING
REGULATIONS} OF ORDINANCE N0. 1628 .
ENTITLED "CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES '
OF THE CITY OF RENTOIvT"
�. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF RENTON, WASHINGTON , AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I : Existing Section 4-1902 (Definitions and
Abbreviations) of 'Pitle IV (Building Requlations) of Ordinance
No. 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton"
is hereby amended to add the fol.lowing:
Section 4-i902 , as amended:
4-1902 : DEFINITIONS AND ABBREVIATION5
For the purpose of this Code, certain abbreviations, terms,
phrases, wor-ds and their derivatives shall be construed as
specified in this Section. Words used in the singular in-
clude the plural , and the plural the singular. Words used
in the masculine gender include the feminine, and the feminine
the masculine.
� 1. Animated Sigr.. A sign with action or motion, flashing, or
- � color chan es re uiring electrical energy, eleCtronic or

manufactured source of supply, but not including revolving
signs or wind actuated elements such as flags or banners.
2. Approved Plastics. Approved plastic materials shall be
those specified in U.B.C. Standards which have a fla*ne-
spread rating of two hundred twenty-five (225) or less
and a smoke density not greater than that obtained from
the burning of t�:itreated wood under similar conditions
when tested in accordance with U.B.C. Standards in the
way intended for use. The products of combustion shall
be no more toxic than the burning of untreated wood under
similar conditions. (See Section 4-1904) .
3. Background Area. The entire face upon which copy could be
placed.
, ` 4. Building Facade. That portion of any exterior elevation
of a building extending from the grade to the top of the
parapet wall or eaves, and the entire width of the build-
ing elevation.
i 5. Building Facade Facing. A resurfacing of an existing
facade with approved material, illuminated or non-illuminated.
6. Buildinq Official. The Officer or other person Charged
with the administration and enforcement of this Code, or
his duly authorized deputy.

36 . Wall Sign. Any sign painted, attached, or erected against
the wall of a building or s�ructure, with the exposed face
of the sign in a plane parallel to the plane of said wa11 .
SECTION II : Existing Section 4-1903, 2 (Appl.ication Pro-
cedures) of Title IV (Building Regulations� of OrdinanCe No. 1628
entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby
amended to read as foll.ows:
Section 4-1903 , 2 , as amended:
2 . A�plication Procedure
A. Required Information. Two (2) copies of the �ollowing infor-
mation shall be submitted with each application:
(1) Application Form. Application for a sign permit shal,l.
be made in writing upon forms furnished by the Build-
ing Official . 5uch application shal.l contain the
location by street and number of the proposed sign as
we11 as the name, address and telephone number of the
owner and the sign contractor or erector.
(2) Plot Plan. A plan at a scale of at Yeast one (1) inch
representing twenty (20) feet showing the prnperty
lines, streets, side4�alks, alleys, easements , trees,
manholes, fire hydrants and clearance from utility
poles; location and type at proposed new signs, in-
cluding any animation or use of flashing lights; and
the location and type of existing signs.
� (3) Construction Plans . A plan at an appropriate scale
showing the footings, connections to building, size
of supports and the materia�, used in 5upports and sign
itself; and the elevation showing the copy to be used
on sign, size of sign, the sign' s re].ationship to
property line, easements, setback lines, structures,
ground clearance, �total height and clearance from
overhead power lines.
B. Additional. Information. The Building Otficial may require
the fi,ling of additional plans , maps or other pertinent
information when, in his opinion, such informatio� is
necessary tn insure compliance w�.th this Code .
