ORDINANCE NO. 3027
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITX OF RENTON , WASHINGTON , AMENDING
CHAPTER 25 OF TITLE I (ADMINISTRATIVE) OF ORDINANCE NO.
1628 ENTITLED "CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
RENTON" RELATING TO SICK LEAVE BENEFIT5 OF CITY EMPLOYEES
' THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I : Existing Section 1-2501 (A) of Title I (Administrative)
of Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of
Renton" is hereby amended to read as follows :
� Section 1-2501 (A) - SICK LEAVE : There is hereby established and
fixed the following policy and schedule of granting sick leave to all
full time employees of the City of Renton, as hereinafter defined, to-wit:

excepting those employees who are members of and covered by the provisions
of the "Washington Law Enforcement Officers and Firefighters Retirement '
System Act" , as amended, or such similar State Act relating to benefits
for personnel of the City ' s Police and Fire Departments , hereafter
employed shall be entitled to sick leave , upon completion of their six
months probationary period, at the rate of one (1) day per month , thus
providing for a total annual sick leave benefit of twelve (12) days
after completion of one year continuous service with the City, which
sick leave benefit may be accumulated, subject to the conditions and
provisions of this Chapter.
"Full time City employee" for the purpose of this Ordinance ,
shall be an employee regularly employed by the City of Renton and working
not less than twenty (2(3) hours per week, but excluding temporary,
seasonal or part-time employees working less than twenty (20) hours per
� week .
Any City employee may be permitted to use up to three ( 3)
days of accumulated sick leave in case of death of a family member
occurring outside the State of Washington , and when special conditions
exist relat ' n
i g to such funeral , such special use of sick leave benefits
shall be subject to approval of the Mayorp ror the purpose of this
sub-chapter,

"member of the family" is defined as the employee ' s mother, father ,
brother, sister, spouse , child, mother-in-law, father-in-law, or
legal guardian.
Whenever any difference or discrepancy exists between the terms
and provisions of this Chapter relating to sick leave ben�fits and
any validly executed and effective collective bargaining agreement
between the City and a union or other association legally representing
City employees , then in any such event the terms and conditions of
such collective bargaining agreement then in effect shall be controlling
relative to such sick leave benefits .
SECTION II : Existing Section 1-2501 (D) 2 (f) of Title I
(Administrative) is hereby amended to read as follows :
Section 1-2501 (D) 2 (f) - as amended : All sick leave benefits
accrued by members of the Renton Police Department in effect on
January l , 1976 , in compliance with then applicable City ordinances ,
shall be duly computed and determined as of said date for each '
i employee thereof. The total amount so determined shall:then be paid

and earned prior thereto , in cash , at the rate of one-half (1/2) of the
then applicable straight time pay scale in effect as of January l, 1976 .
In the event, however, that sick leave and/or disability benefits are
reduced under the presently existing provisions of the °tWashington
Law Enforcement Officers and Firefighters Retirement System Act" , as
amended, then in any such event sick leave benefits tl�etofore accrued
or thereafter accruing shall be immediately reinstated to such employee ' s
benefits , �ro tanto, and such benefits shall be payable in accordance
with this Section.

Any member of the Renton PGli^e �epartment shall b�

has used less than five (5 ) days of accumulated sick leave- in the
previous calendar year.
SECTION III : Any and all ordinances or parts ot ordinances
in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION IV : This ordinance shall be effectiire from and after
its passage , approv� and five days after its publication.
