ORDINANCE N0. 3142
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, ADOPTING
AND ESTABLISHING BY REFERENCE A "UNIFORM FIRE CODE, 1976 �,
EDITION" DESCRIBING REGULATIONS GOVERNING CONDITIONS ��
HAZARDOUS TO LIFE AND PROPERTY FROM FIRE AND/OR EXPLOSION;
PROVIDING ADDITIONS, DELETIONS AND AMENDMENTS TO SAID CODE;
AND ' REP,EALING ANY AND ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH.
WHEREAS not less than three (3) printed copies in book form of
the "U1��IFORM FIRE CODE, 1976 EDITION" , as issued and recommended by the
"International Conference of Building Officials" , and "Western Fire
Chiefs Association" , have heretofore been filed in the office of the
City Clerk of the City of Renton for use and examination by the public,
and it � is deemed advisable and in the public interest to adopt said Code
by reference as provided by law, but subject to certain deletions ,
additions and amendments thereto , together with any amendments , additions
or modifications when printed and filed with the City Clerk from time
to time, NOW THEREFORE �
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I: There is hereby adopted that certain "UNIFORM FIRE
CODE, 1976 EDITION" , issued an d recommen ded by the "International Conference
of Building Officials" , and "Western Fire Chief Association" , of which not
less than three (3) printed copies in book form have heretofore been filed
in the office of the City Clerk and made available for examination by
the public, which said Code may hereafter be designed as "CITY OF RENTON
UNIFORM FIRE CODE", provided, however, that the following amendments ,
deletions and changes are hereby made and established to said Code,
' as follows, to-wit :
A., ; Article 12�, entitled- "Fireworks" of said "Uniform Fire
Code, 1976 Edition" �is hereby, deleted in its entirety.
B. Section 11. 105 entitlecl "Borid� Required" , of Article 11
entitled' "Explosives and Blasting Agents" , of said �
"Uniform Fire Cade, 1976 Edition" is hereby deleted.

' C. Section 10.. T1�3(b) �entitled "Exit Signs" , of Article 10, I
entitled "Maintenance of Exit Ways" is hereby amended .to
read as follows : j
"At every required Exit doorway, and wherever otherwise '
:-equir�d to clearl=� �_�dicate the direction of egress,
an Exit sign with letters at least six (6) inches high,
and readily distinguishable, shall be maintained from �
all areas serving the occupant load specified in this ',
subsection" .

"Uniform Fire Code , 1973 Edition" is hereby deleted.
The aforesaid adoption of said "UNIFORM FIRE CODE, 1976 EDITION"
shall likewise include Appendix A through and including Appendix G.
Any and all amendments , additions or modifications to said "UNIFORM
FIRE CODE , 1976 EDITION" , or any appendix thereto, when printed and
filed with the City Clerk of the City of Renton by authorization
of the City Council from time to time shall be considered and accepted
and constitute a part of said Code, as amended , without the necessity
of further adoption of such amendments , modi�ications or additions
by the legislative authority of the City of Renton or b� Ordinance.
SECTION II : Exis�ing Section 7-9Q4 of Chapter 9 of Title pI,I
(Fire Regulations) of Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of Genexal
Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby amended to read as
follows :
Section 7-904 as amended: APPLICATTON; APPEAL: Whenever
the Chief of the Fire Department shall disapprove an application
or refuse to grant the permit applied for, or �hen it is claimed
that the provisions of the Code do not apply or that the true intent
and meaning of the Code have been isconstrued or wronglX xnter�reted,
' such applicant may appeal from such decision to t�e �p�eals Comm�ssion
of the City of Renton within te� (10) days from the �ate o� such
decision and as provided by the ordinances of the City o� Renton.
Any such appeal shall be in writing and after the receipt o� any
such appeal, the A-peals Commission shall set a date of hearing
which shall be within thirty (3Q) days after the rece��t of Notice
of Appeal .
SECTION III : Existing Section 7-905 of Chapter 9,. Title VI�
(Fire Regulations) of Ordinance No . 1628 enti.tled "CQde of General
Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby amended to read as �ollows :

Section 7-905 as amended: ADDITIONS; AMENDMENTS :
A. The limits referred to in Section 15 . 201 , of the "UNIFORM
FIRE CODE, 1976 EDITION" in which storage of flammable liquids in '
outside above-ground tanks is prohibited are hereby established as
follows :
Prohibited in Fire Zone I , and Residential Districts , and as
specified in Chapter 3 of Title VII (Fire Regulations) of
Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of
the City of Renton" . I
B . The limits referred to in Section 15 . 601 of the "UNIFORM
FIRE CODE , 1976 EDITION" in which new bulk plants for flammable
liquids are prohibited are hereby established as follows :
Prohibited in Fire Zone 1 , and Residential Districts ,
and as further provided for in Chapter 3 , of Title VII
(Fire Regulations) of Ordinance No . 1628 entitled "Code
of General Ordinances of the City� of Renton" .
C. The limits referred to in 5ection 20'i105 of the "UNIFORM
FIRE CODE , 1976 EDITION" in which bulk storaqe of iiquefied petroleum
gas is restricted are hereby established as follows :
Prohibited in Fire Zone l, and Residential Districts ,
and as further provided for in Chapter 3 of Title VII
(Fire Regulations) of Ordinance No . 1628 entitled "Code
of General Ordinances of the City of Renton" .
, D . The limits referred to in Section 11 . 106 of the "UNIFORM
FIRE CODE, 1976 EDITION" in which storage of explosives and blasting
agents is prohibited are hereby established as follows : ,
Prohibited within the City , except for temporary stora�e
as specified in Section 7-603 of Chapter 6, Title VII
(Fire Regulations) o,f Ordinance No . 1628 entitled "Code of
General Ordinances of the City of Renton" , particular
reference being hereby made thereto for further particulars .

SECTION IV: Existing Sections 7-901 , 7-904 , 7-905 , 7-906 and
7-908 of Title VII (Fire Regulations) of OrdinanCe No. 1628 entitled �
"Code of General Ordinances of the CitX of Renton" aze hereby repealed '
in their entirety .
SECTION VI: Any and all ordinances or parts of ordinances in
conflict herewith or inconsistent with the proyisions o� this Ordinance
and the "UNIFORM FIRE CODE, 1976 EDITION" are hereby re�ealed and
superseded.
SECTION VII ; This Ordinance shall be effecti,ve fxom and a�ter
its passage, approval and �ive days after its publication� unless
otherwise provided for hereinabove.
