AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RELATING TO THE
IMPOUNDING OF DOGS AND THE APPOINTMENT OF KING COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY
AS POUND MASTER.
WHEREAS the City wishes to avail itself of the services offered by the
King County Humane Society in the impounding of dogs andother animals and in the
enforcement of the City's dog control ordinance as set forth in Chapter 16, Title V
(Business Regulations) of Ordinance No. 1628 "Code of General Ordinances of the City
of Renton", and
WHEREAS such an arrangement is in the best interest and for the public
benefit, NOW THEREFORE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON
AS FOLLOWS:
Section I: The Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized and directed
to execute the Service Agreement with the King County Humane Society dated November
1962, a copy of which is attached hereto for further particulars.
Section II: The King County Humane Society, effective as of January 1,
1963 is designated and appointed as the City Pound Master and is authorized to carry
out the terms of the above stated Agreement and the provisions of Chapter 16, Title V
of the City's Code.
Section III: Any and all Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed.
Section IV: This Ordinance shall become effective on and after January 1,
1963 and after its passage, approval and publication.

AGREEMENT
Whereas the City of Renton (herein called City) desires to avail itself
to the benefits and privileges of the King County Humane Society (herein called
Society) for curtailment and impounding of dogs running loose in the City and
other matters as hereinafter set forth and
Whereas the King County Humane Society is agreeable to entering into a
contract with the City of Renton on the terms and conditions as hereinafter set
forth for picking up and confinement of dogs and other animals and other matters
as hereinset forth
Now, therefore in consideration of the mutual benefits and conditions
herein contained the King County Humane Society herein called Society and the
City of Renton enter into this agreement as follows:
1. The Society shall provide truck, driver and necessary equipment and
patrol the City five (5) days each week, with the exception of seven (7) specified
holidays for the purposes of:
(a) removing dead animals
(b) caring for and removing injured or infected animals
(c) picking up and impounding stray animals
2. The Society shall act as the agent of the City in enforcement of all
the City's Ordinances relating to animal control such as now adopted or as may be
adopted in the future; but Society agrees to hold the City harmless from any lia-
bility in connection with or arising out of the removal, care and disposition of
all such animals.
3. In addition to the above, the Society shall provide emergency service
for all calls received from the Police Department involving injured animals on a
24-hour basis, seven days a week.
4. The Society shall provide pound services to the City and to its residences
at its established quarters at 601 Elliott Avenue West, Seattle. The Society is
authorized to destroy any animal unclaimed or unredeemed after proper confinement
as authorized by City Ordinances,
5. That for the faithful performance of the services contemplated by Sections
1 through 4.hereof, the King County Humane Society shall be compensated by the City
at the rate of Seven Thousand, Two Hundred and Eighty Dollars ($7280.00) per the
year beginning as of January 1, 1963 payable in equal monthly installments on or
before the 20th day of each calendar month for such services rendered during the
preceding calendar month. In addition to the compensation herein provided, said
Society shall collect and retain all impounding and other fees for the care and
feed of impounded dogs,.cats and other animals, and shall collect and retain fees
for the collection and disposal of owners animals, whether dead or alive. The
Society shall collect and pay over to the City all dog license fees.
6. The Society shall report monthly to the Chief of Police in writing an
analysis covering the preceding monthf.s services provided by the Society.
7. This agreement shall be in effect for one year unless terminated by
either party on written notice given thirty (30) days or more in advance.
