RESOLUTION N0. 736
WHEFW., we consider it unwise that racing at Longacres
should be cancelled during the 1949 season$ except for just and
unavoidable reasons, and because the cancellation of racing
during 1949 will cause unjust financial sacrifice to many who
have prepared for the racing seasons, AND
WFRFAS the failure to hold a racing meet at Long acres
during 1949 would cause the loss of one half a million dollars
or more to the State of Washingtong which is badly in need of
all possible revenues for the operation of the States, AND
WHERFASs, the owners and breeders of race horses would be
deprived of the income to aid them in continuing in their
businesss, which we,believe is a valuable asset to the State
of Washingtons, AND
jgMrMs, the City Council of the City of Renton.. wished
to make it plain that they do not desire to express or imply
any partisanship in the disagreement between the owners and
operators of the Longacres Race Track and the State Racing
Commissions, they still wish to go on record as favoring some
method of agreement that would permit racing as originally
scheduled.
NOW THERMRES BE IT RESOLVED9 that we (request the owners
and operators of the Longacres Race Track)and the!Washington
State Horse Racing Commission to make every effort to reach
some (reconciliation in their views and ideas that would enable
the races to be hel//d as previously scheduled for 1949.
Passed by the City Council this 17r day of May# 1949.
