Elizabeth Stevens The Renton Community Foundation was established in 1999. They provide
a means for people to make charitable contributions to the causes they care
most about, and increase the flow of charitable dollars to areas of need. It is
Absent: governed by a group of community leaders knowledgeable about and
accountable to the community they serve. They manage over$3 million for
Samantha Williams a variety of worthwhile causes, including the Budkis Charbonneau Fund for
Senior Emergency Pet Care, the Maxwell Fund for Youth and Families, and
Staff Contacts: Communities in Schools of Renton. The foundation also works to facilitate
the success of local non-profits by focusing on education. They recently held
Karen Bergsvik a workshop to help non-profits increase their knowledge about marketing
425-430-6652 and branding to be more effective at fundraising in these challenging times.

dutecht@rentonwa.gov June 30, 2009, and were forced to close. The decision was made to
reallocate the funds to St. Vincent de Paul for emergency services.
Katie McClincy
425-430-7555 4. Reduce Copvinq: A hard copy of the Human Services Advisory Committee
kmcclincy@rentonwa.gov information packet is currently mailed to members each month. In an effort
Carol Allread to reduce costs associated with copying and postage and move to a more
425-430-6650 "green" process, it was suggested that we send the packets by email to
callread@rentonwa.gov those members with an email address. Members expressed concern over
the costs associated with printing and requested that a projector be provided
at the meetings to view the agenda and attachments. This option is currently being explored for
practicality and feasibility. It was also suggested that members could print only necessary items, and
review others electronically.
5. Renton Specific Outcome due July 15, 2009: This is the first year we have required agencies to

6. Updates
a) 2010 Renton Budget: The City is moving to a zero-based budgeting approach and each
department must submit bids to justify funding of programs. The current projected shortfall is $6
million. It has been stressed that we cannot continue to do business in the same way, that we must
get creative, work with other departments and look for ways to increase efficiencies. Three budgets
are to be submitted with each bid: a baseline budget offer (budget from 2009), an alternative budget
offer(a reduced budget amount), and a mandatory/minimum budget offer, which represents
minimum services.
b) Summer Lunch Proqram: The number of sites providing lunches to children ages 1-18 has
increased this year from four to 14. Dianne identified community partners and worked with the
Renton School District to ensure that the sites were located throughout the City. Flyers are available
and information is posted on the City of Renton website.
c) Foreclosures in Renton: King County will apply via the state for federal money to assist with
foreclosures. This assistance will concentrate on two zip codes that have high rates of loans at risk.
The two zip codes are Federal Way and Skyway. Some of the money will be in the form of down
payment assistance for buyers for homes that have already been in foreclosure.
