Eligible applicants indicated their intention to participate in the examination process by submitting a letter
- of intention to the Civil Service/Human Resources Department. Candidates were provided a 60-day notice,
as required for promotional testing under Civil Service. The examination process consisted on a written
examination(100 multiple choice questions), a Department Work Rating process, and an Assessment
Center. The Assessment Center consisted of three parts: Oral Board Interview,Tactical Exercise, and a
Role Playing/Writing Exercise.

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from a standard high school,vocational school, or equivalency.
Applicants for this class must have completed at least five years as a commissioned Police Officer with a
minimum of three years as a commissioned Police Officer with the Renton Police Department at the time
of the written examination.
��Ir�aT�a�v ec�NT��vT: I
The examination consists of three major parts: Written Exam,Dept Work Rating, &Assessment Center.
Specifics were:
Written Examination-Worth 30%of the total score. A minimum score of 70%was required to proceed to
the Department Work Rating process.
Department Work Rating-Worth 30%of the total score. This did NOT require a 70%minimum to
proceed,however,this scare did feed into the overall rating which did require a 70%overall score.
Raters were 15 Sergeants, and they rated on a"consensus",with 5 dimensions being rated.
Assessment Center-Worth 60%of the total scare. This assessment will consisted of 3 parts,which were
all equally weighed within the Assessment Center. A minimum score of 70%was require to pass the
Assessment Center portion. Below were the Assessors for each Assessment Station:

A combined(written results ,Dept rating results,and assessment center results)minimum score of 70%
was required for placement on the eligibility list. Candidates were ranked on a two-year eligibility list.

The Renton Police Department had received one new application for consideration. This candidate was
interviewed,on 10/24/08. Those who pass the written test proceed to the Oral Board Interview. (Ever since
11/27/07 the Physical Fitness Agility Test-PFAT was not administered as part of the Lateral Police Officer
examination process.) The interview is weighted at 100%of the final score,with a passing score of 70%.

Must have been a regular police officer for a minimum of one year of the past 36 months in order to be
considered. Must pass the written test,and oral board in order to be placed on the eligibility list.
� E7��,.T�INATI4N CONTENT: �
Written exam involves candidates watching a video of a response to a 911 Domestic Violence call, and writing a
report with findings. The Written exam has a pass/fail rating. The oral board consists of a set of 15 structured
questions, and the rating of five dimensions, developed for an experienced police officer. Passing score for the
70%or greater is required to be placed on the eligibility list.
