NATURE OF WORK Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, develop and implement comprehensive external and internal communication strategies. Serve as a liaison as assigned. Create and manage content for Department publications (external and internal), the municipal web site, government access television programming; newsletters and other informational and promotional mechanisms. Work with other communication staff and provide timely and accurate information for the city's newsletter. Coordinate relevant activities that may affect the City of Renton's service to its customers. Ensure consistency in design and branding with the citywide graphic standards. The person in this position must support effective relationships with the community including community associations, the business community, civic organizations, regional partners, the media, various interested groups and individuals and with other city departments. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES ■ Plan, organize and creatively develop public information materials in print, web and other formats on various issues and topics related to the Department to target key external and internal audiences. Develop and recommend new communication methods and enhancements to better achieve department goals. (Multilingual a plus). WORKING CONDITIONS Work is generally performed in an office environment but travel to meetings and other gatherings may be required. May also require attendance at night meetings. Questions cover various in the following areas: IPC Competency, Professionalism, supervision & Discipline, Proper Use of Force & Defensive Tatics, Inmate Mental Problems, Security Management, Report Writing, Pat/Frisk & handcuffing, Leg & Waist Restaint, Transportation/LTnclothed Searches, Practical Law, and Fingerprinting. Passing candidates proceed to oral board interview, and must obtain a 70°/a Passing Score in the Oral Board Interview to be considered further. The total score consists 100% on the oral board interview results. The process will begin with a Written Examination to be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2008. Those who pass the written examination will be evaluated in a Department Work Rating and invited to participate in an Assessment Center. Below are brief explanations of each component mentioned: WRITTEN EXAMINATION A minimum score of 70% in the written exam will be required to proceed to both the Department Work Rating and Assessment Center. The written examination will be worth 30% of the total score. Exam Study List is available on page 2 of job announcement. DEPARTMENT WORK RATING PROCESS The Department Work Rating Process is worth 30%of the total score. The rating is conducted by a panel of City of Renton Police Sergeants. The panel will rate candidates in various areas including EXAMINATION documented or personally observed work performance. COMPONENTS ASSESSMENT CENTER The Assessment Center will be worth 40% of the total score and requires a minimum of 70% to pass. The Assessment Center will be developed and administered by an outside Assessment Center Administrator. The Administrator will present an assessment center orientation/briefing for all candidates passing the written test on September llte,2008. (Location TBD) The Assessment Center will be held October 22°d and 23`d,2008,and consist of the following: • Oral Board Interviews • Tactical Exercise • Role Playing/Writing Exercise A combined(Written Exam, Department Work rating, &Assessment Center) minimum score of 70%is required for placement on the eligibility list The two year list will be established effective November 25,2008.
