ATTENDING: Members: John DuBois Amy Pieper Catherine Ploue-Smith,President Staf£ Bette Anderson, Library Director MINUTES 1. CALL TO ORDER: The September 10, 2009,meeting of the Library Board at the Renton Public Library was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Catherine Ploue-Smith. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Amy Pieper MOVED THAT THE AGENDA FOR September 10, 2009,be approved. SECONDED by John DuBois. The motion CARRIED. 3. REVIEW OF MINUTES: Amy Pieper MOVED THAT THE MINUTES OF June 11, 2009,be approved. SECONDED by John DuBois. The motion CARRIED. John DuBois MOVED THAT THE MINUTES OF July 15, 2009,be approved. SECONDED by Amy Pieper. The motion CARRIED. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT: None. 5. COMMLJNICATIONS: None. 6. FINANCIAL REPORT: The Expenditure Status Report for August 2009 was distributed. 7. MONTHLY REPORT: STATISTICS—August 2009 statistics were distributed. 8. OLD BUSINESS: 2010 BUDGET—The 2010 budget process and library budget proposals were discussed. Mayor Denis Law is scheduled to present the proposed City Budget to the City Council on October 19, 2009. KCLS—Bette Anderson, Assistant Director Aaron Oesting, and Amy Pieper attended the King County Library System(KCLS)Board of Trustees' meeting of August 25, 2009. The Ordinance establishing the City's intent to ask Renton voters at a special election in February 2010 to decide whether to annex to KCLS was presented to the Board for their concurrence. The KCLS Board unanimously voted to concur with the Ordinance. SURVEY—The draft report from Cocker Fennessy, Inc.,regarding the on-line survey was discussed. 1 RENTON P�,,LIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUST�„r MEETING September 10, 2009 STAFF—The KCLS Human Resources Department staff will meet one-on-one with Renton Library Circulation staff to discuss current job duties to more accurately match our employees with KCLS job descriptions and duties. The interviews will take place the third week of September. PUBLIC DISCLOSURE COMMISSION—Bette Anderson distributed information from the PDC that provides guidelines for library board members on"permitted"and"not permitted"activities during election campaigns. PROJECT UPDATES: SUMMER READING PROGRAM—Participants in the Adult Summer Reading Program submitted 211 book reviews. Pictures entered in the "Master the Art of Reading"Photo Contest are on display in the meeting room, and Board members are invited to vote for their favorites. Winners of the prize baskets will be selected next week. 9. NEW BUSINESS: John DuBois requested information be provided, at the next meeting, regarding the extent of insurance coverage far the library building and contents in the case of flood or other disaster. 10. ADJOURNIVIENT: The meeting adjourned at 8:30pm. The next regular meeting of the Library Board is scheduled for 7:OOpm, Thursday, October 8, 2009, at the Renton Public Library.
