DIRECTOR'S REPORT Trails & Bicycle Master Plan: Leslie Betlach reported that the Transportation Division will be asking City Council to authorize a time extension for the consultant contract. Discussion followed as to what has been asked of the consultant and how they will proceed with the trails map. Pete Maas asked if there will be a City of Renton Trails map available(from the work done on the Trails &Bicycle Master Plan)for Renton River Days. Leslie indicated there would not be sufficient time to complete this map prior to Renton River Days. Dan Hasty indicated the Transportation Division could produce a large drawing with"Draft" across it for display at the River Days Booth. Craig Paynter suggested the use of something similar to what was used at the Open House— printing a map on paper where people could make comments on the reverse side. Craig thought this would be a good opportunity to talk with people. The committee members could also hand out the trails informational flyer Pete and the sub- committee members are preparing so that people are aware of the Non-Motorized Transportation Advisory Committee. Ron Regis Park—Phase II development: Leslie Betlach reported a gant application has been completed for the Phase II development to convert the existing soccer field to field turf(synthetic material). This development would also include the construction of more parking and add drinking fountains, picnic, and play areas. The City is hoping for construction to begin next year. Phase III would include converting the baseball field and cricket field into two baseball fields. A re-cap of the February Park Board meeting was presented by Pete Maas. A re-cap of the March Park Board Meeting was presented by Janene Sestak. 1:2008 Files2008-118mb(NonMotorized-Apr08 Minutes).doc Renton Non-Motorized Transportation Advisory Committee Apri13,2008,Meeting Minutes Page 3 of 4 VII. OLD BUSINESS 1. Comprehensive Walkway Study/2008 Final Report: Dan Hasty reported on the Comprehensive Walkway Study and gave updates on the progress. He indicated that funding is being directed towards restoration of sidewalks. Dan said they would be bundling top priorities that are in the same geographic area into dollar amounts of approximately$200,000 and get pricing from contractors. Dan also noted that when a development comes in they are required to construct sidewalks as part of the site development. Craig Paynter asked how much impact the annexation for the area that used to be King County and is now Renton has caused with this project. Dan explained they did receive an inventory from King County; and part of the task is to visit the property and determine what percentage of the sidewalk is in good shape. Craig Paynter noted one area of concern;North/South Jerrico has curbs then rumble strips which forces bikes into the street. If there were more breaks in the curb this would allow a biker to make a transition to the sidewalk. 2. Renton River Days Flyer: Pete Maas asked if the committee would like to meet to discuss developing a draft flyer. Jean Hobart, Janene Sestak, and Margaret Feaster expressed interest. VIII. NEW BUSINESS 1. Copies of"The Green-Duwamish River, Connecting people with a diverse environment"trails maps were distributed at the meeting. The City of Renton worked jointly with other cities to produce this map. It gives some history of the area and other information. 2. Leslie Betlach also noted that the South King County Parks &Trails map was done years ago and included City of Auburn, Algona, Pacific and points south. This map won a Washington Associates Parks Association award. We also have copies of the Burien, SeaTac,Tuwkila, and Renton,Parks &Trails Map for King County. IX.
