information, try to make it more interactive. Communications Committee will refocus their
attention on it and make suggestions.
Resource Development:
• Grant was finalized, thank you to those that made it happen. It was requested that more
Commissioners provide feedback on grant applications. We have a good template now for the grant
which will help with moving forward. Arts Commission will present the Master Plan to the Parks
Commission on October 19. It's important that Arts Commissioners are knowledgeable about the
content of the Master Plan and the grant application.
• Work started on the Logan Avenue project;it will be exciting to see this public art project come to
fruition.
. Dalia gave an update on the Reflections Art Program and passed around her notes from her
discussion with Annie Hetzel. They are continually looking for affordable venues to host their
Awards ceremony so please let her know of a location that might work. Also, they are always in
need of volunteers and perhaps local artists could be asked to volunteer.
Rainier Avenue Proiect: Draft RFQ for Rainier Avenue Project is ready. We are asking for an additional
$25,000 from the 1%for art fund which will bring the total amount to$50,000. The Commissions'focus
will be on the welcome sign. Wesley Van Doren has looked at KPG's website;they have done a lot of
good work around the area. Pat Pepper, Britt McKenzie&Wesley Van Doren volunteered to be on the
panel to review the RFQ.
Retreat: Pat Pepper,Jennifer Davis Hayes&Dalia Amin had a conference call with Marcia Holland.
They discussed what the Commission wants to get out of the retreat. The homework to prepare for
retreat is to be knowledgeable about the content of the Master Plan and become familiar with the
important pieces.
Master Plan: One of the ideas that may be moving forward is Balazs Days. Michael Christ owns a
private collection and is willing to loan some pieces for an exhibit which the Renton History Museum is
willing to host. Peggy Weiss has offered to be the curator for the show. A book about the artist has
recently been published and our art piece is highlighted in it;we could also do a book signing at the
exhibit. We could try to connect with businesses that may use processes such as enameling. Consider
allocating money for this project in the 2011 budget. Fred Lund mentioned the gallery in Spokane and
that we may be able to work with them, Peggy Weis has already connected with them.
