an existing city storm system. Originally completed in 1987, the outfall rock has been washed away

Shoreline Exemption
May Creek Storm Outfall Repair Project
Project Narrative:
The proposed May Creek Storm Outfall Repair Project is located adjacent to May Creek off of
Jones Ave NE on King County Property, Parcel Number 3342103380. The project size is
approximately 400 square feet.
The work will involve replacing 6-inch diameter rock at the outfall of an existing City storm
system. Originally completed in 1987, the outfall rock has since been washed away resulting in
erosion at the outfall. Additional rock will be placed to minimize further erosion and reduce the
energy of water exiting the pipe.
This project is exempt as it is considered repair of an existing structure.
Anticipated dates of work are between June 16 and August 15, 2004 due to expected
requirements outlined by the WDF & W in the HP A.
Other permits required include an HPA from the WDF&W and a SEPA exemption from the City
of Renton. Also, since the work will be occurring on King County property, a King County
Special Use Permit and Clearing and Grading Permit will are required.
The current and proposed uses for the site are undeveloped land containing the storm outfall.
The outfall is located within 30 feet of May Creek.
Soils include silty sands with layers of clayey material.
The work is expected to be performed by City Maintenance crews, the value of the rock shouldn't
be more than $2,000.
The amount of 6-inch diameter rock to be placed is approximately 14 cubic yards.
No trees are expected to be removed. Disturbed vegetation includes blackberries and Japanese
Knotweed.
The distance from the work area to the ordinary high water mark of the shoreline is
approximately 4 feet.
The existing shoreline is natural and very low bank.
