Enclosed are a few pictures of the yard and the fence as it currently sits. We removed
some of the cross sections of the fence to give a better idea of how it will look with a five
foot setback-in these pictures the sections of the fence with slats still attached are located
just over five feet from the sidewalk.
There is a large neighborhood park directly behind our house and a small street leading
into our courtyard in the front. We are only bordered on one side by another house, and
this is on the side of the house opposite the street. There will not be any other fences near
our short section offence. Because of the above mentioned items, the landscaping shown
in our application and a five foot setback we believe that the "wall effect" will be
prevented in our situation.
Our plan for permanent landscaping includes the use of an existing maple tree in the
corner of the lot and the addition of three Emerald Green Arboruitae and five
Rhododendrons. This will help to mask the fence and make it appear less obvious to
passers by.
The fence will be built of cedar slats with pressure treated vertical posts sunk in 80
pounds of concrete. This is how the existing fence is built and it is quite sturdy. We put
a layer of river rocks under the fence (covering out to about a foot on each side) to help
water drain away from the fence to prevent rot. The horizontal supports for the cedar
slats will face inwards, so that the view from the street will be only of the vertical cedar
slats and the fence posts. We will not be including any ornarnental items on the fence.
This style of fence is the same as that used throughout our neighborhood and is required
by our homeowner's association.
