SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR'S REPORT—Shawn Daly
• A flyer will be posted at the Senior Center and a article in the Renton Reporter stating "the Renton
Senior Activity Center Advisory Committee is currently accepting applications from senior citizens interested in
serving on this committee." Announcement will remain in effect until 9/30/10. We will look at candidates
and then set-up a schedule for interviews. Each candidate must attend one meeting prior to the interview
process. One of the candidates, Dorothy Cook, is here today.
• A thank you went out to Mary Ann Ellingson, Rose Warren, Emilie McCue and Marjorie Reep for
volunteering during the "Movie Night" serving hot dogs, chips and Klondike bars. A special thanks to the
Advisory Board for their support of$500 for refreshments. We spent$443.00 with $57.00 returning to the
committee.
• Received a $25 check from Mary Ann Ellingson in memory of Jane Goodwin.
• On Thursday Shawn has a meeting with the City Transportation Department to discuss how the
road reconstruction on Burnett Avenue will impact the Senior Center.
• Spoke with Michael Nolan regarding the Library remodel to see if we are still on schedule. He has been
busy and hasn't had a chance to get everything in order. The plan was to complete the work during the two
weeks the Center is closed for maintenance. It is on their schedule for a later date.
• The Nutrition Site Coordinator, Cher, has some needs. They plan cooking more meals from scratch
using fresh produce instead of receiving meals from the caterer. Cher is requesting a large commercial saute
and grill pan costing about $50 each. It was moved by Ben Cheney, second by Elaine Koehler to allot $150 to
purchase a saute and grill pan with the stipulation the pans remain at the Senior Center should they move at
some point and time. Motion carried.
• The Renton Senior Center on Sunday was a cooling center, as well as tonight, due to high tempera-
tures. There will be no age restriction.

• Ten years ago we did a "I`nory Book." This book is of the Rentnior Center; in the front daily
activities, volunteers, classes; in the back everyone's picture. This guest book is helpful to all of us. Staff '
looking into doing another Memory Book. No time frame set up; have a staff person obtaining information. In
the past it did not cost to produce the book, but allowed the photographer to come in, take and sell pictures.
Board Members were asked if this is of value and whether staff should pursue this. After a discussion period it
was moved by Elaine Koehler, second by Rose Warren to pursue a new "memory book." Motion Carried.
Mary Burns-Haley asked that photographer not pressure purchase of pictures.
• Shawn will look into purchasing new badges for the Advisory Board Members.
RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT---Tim Williams
As Shawn mentioned we are a cooling shelter. A lot of times we just get a notification from
Emergency Services saying, "there is going to be a heat wave this weekend." We then arrange a facility to
accommodate the public to cool off.
• Still working through the Budget. Should have a better idea by the end of September.
RECREATION COORDINATOR—Debbie Little

ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
Mary Burns-Haley explained the advantages travelling with Elderhostel since she has been on five trips with
them. It's an International organization and a Senior Educational Project; you go to no gift shops. You are
responsible to get there and back, once you are there they take care of you; food is furnished; various trips;
classes; something educational in the morning. Top quality people doing the educating.
Ben Cheney asked if it were possible to have the Nutrition sign-in sheet for this committee passed around for
everyone to sign. Shawn will check with Marilyn in Nutrition and ask if it will pose a problem.
Rose Warren thanked the city for coming up and cleaning up Talbot Hill. I have called numerous times for
them to mow the sides of the highway. It looks nice!
Douglas Gregory asked about September meetings since Labor Day is the first Monday, September 6, and the
Senior Center closed for maintenance on the third Monday, September 20. Meetings dropped for September.
Meeting was adjourned by President pro tem, Douglas Gregory, at 10:52 A.M.
