Meeting Minutes
July 20, 2011 Renton City Hall

1. CALL TO ORDER: Commission Vice Chair Drollinger called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL: Commission Secretary O’Halloran called roll. Commissioners Chen and Prince were absent and
excused.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The Minutes of the May 18, June 1, and June 15, 2011 meetings were approved as
written.
4. CORRESPONDENCE RECEIVED: None
5. AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None

7 DIRECTOR’S REPORT:
Three consultants were interviewed and MAKERS has been hired as the consultant for the Benson
Community Plan. The Benson neighborhood picnic was held last week. As part of the development of
the Community Plan, staff attended and engaged the public in an interview regarding their community.
The City has hired Mithun to work on putting together a choice neighborhood grant for the Sunset area.
They also worked on the Sunset Planned Action and EIS. The first project in this area is a Renton
Housing Authority project, an 8‐unit townhouse development.
Phil Olbrechts was hired as the City’s Hearing Examiner.
8. DEVELOPMENT REGULATIONS (TITLE IV) AMENDMENTS DOCKET #7 BRIEFING:
D‐77: Administrative Code Interpretations
Chip presented this docket item. Code interpretations are needed if the standards are unclear or
contradictory, there is misplaced text following a code update, or the predictability is unclear. These
interpretations are made effective after a 14 day public comment period and a 14 day appeal period. The
following interpretations became effective during the past year: electric vehicle infrastructure; impervious
surfacing; setbacks in the R‐10 and R‐14 zones; density, net rounding; indoor small vehicle sales; tree
removal activities; recreation facilities, indoor, new; urban separator overlays of Soos Creek and Lake Desire;

special fill and grade permit; and address assignments.
D‐71: Misc Residential Standards
Angie presented this docket item. This item has consolidated five small related docket requests made by the
Planning Division. The request is to specify which portions of the Code are superseded by Urban Design
District regulations and implement a parking requirement for accessory dwelling units. Also in the request,
for the residential design and open space regulations, is to establish a threshold for when
additions/expansions should be required to comply with requirements, clarify applicability of color
requirements, and clarify open space requirement.
9. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS: The next Commission meeting will be on August 3, 2011.
10. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 7:17 p.m.
