Guests included Andee Jorgenson from Allied Arts, Liz Stewart from the Renton History Museum, Marilyn Stone and Muyguek Taing. Marilyn and Muyguek are interested in volunteering with the Arts& Culture Master Plan committees. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: COMMISSIONER BRITT MCKENZIE PRESENTED THE MINUTES FOR MAY TO THE GROUP AND ASKED IF ANYONE HAD ANY COMMENTS. PAUL HEBRON MOTIONED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES,SECONDED BY DOUG KYES.COMMISSIONERS CONCURED, MOTION CARRIED. PUBLIC ART PIECE OF THE MONTH: Peter Hartley was scheduled for lune but was unable to attend this month. CORRESPONDENCE AND ANNOUNCEMENTS: Jennifer Davis Hayes passed around the folder for people to review. OLD BUSINESS Action Item List Arts Commission Committees: See reports, no action necessary at this time. Ad Hoc Committees Fall Arts Equinox: The event is scheduled for September 20, 6-8 pm. The theme of"Reflection"was decided. This event will be a showcase of arts and culture, including music performances and potentially an opportunity to record small video clips about what attendees like about arts and culture in Renton. There will be 3-4 Pecha Kucha presenters. Suggested locations include Renton History Museum, Renton Technical College, Renton Community Center, Renton Civic Theatre, Carco Theatre, i • � Renton Municipal Arts Commission Minutes Page 2 of 2 January 3,2012 Renton Chamber of Commerce. The next planning meeting is Thursday,June 28,at 5:30 pm at Luther's Table. Renton River Davs Booth: Bill asked for volunteers to help with the Committee. Britt and Evelyn volunteered. The shift schedule was passed around and Commissioners were encouraged to sign up for one or two work sessions in the booth. Commission Projects Carco Theatre:Current exhibit is Jan Tervonen and is open until June 22. Librarv Architecture Desi�n Team: Decision on location of the downtown library will be on the August ballot. No additional information about the Highlands Library design. SIFF-Renton: Overall attendance was lower than this year but the Opening Night Screening&Gala was sold out and there was more awareness of SIFF-Renton than last year. The next SIFF/FilmFrenzy Planning Committee meeting is June 21. Earthworks Bicvcle Tour.June 2,2012: Ben, Liz and Peter all volunteered at the booth for this event. They said it was very enjoyable and over 200 people participated. The artist of the Waterworks Gardens was on hand to provide guided tours and it was very interesting. Many people were not aware ofthe site and posting on the City's Facebook page resulted in similar responses. . Retreat Follow Up: The Arts Commissioners further discussed the prioritization of Master Plan efforts and concluded that the Arts Commission needs to engage artists and art supporters about what they need and focus all efforts of the committee on building awareness and communication. Commissioners were asked to review the Master Plan and email Jennifer the committee's efforts and progress to this point. Adiournment: The June 5, 2012, meeting was adjourned at 6:35 pm.
