CALL TO ORDER: Commission Chair McKenzie called the meeting to order at 4:30pm.
Mr. Black gave a report on the Hillcrest Early Childhood Learning Center inclusive playground project.
The new school will be open in the Fall of 2013. The City will develop an inclusive playground in
collaboration with the Renton School District. Funds will include donations from the Rotary Club and
other service clubs, in addition to City resources.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: COMMISSIONER BRITT MCKENZIE PRESENTED THE MINUTES FOR DECEMBER
TO THE GROUP AND ASKED IF ANYONE HAD ANY COMMENTS. DOUG KYES MOTIONED TO APPROVE
THE MINUTES,SECONDED BY PAUL HEBRON. COMMISSIONERS CONCURED, MOTION CARRIED.
PUBLIC ART PIECE OF THE MONTH: Ben Andrews gave a report on"The Owl". This sculpture is located
in the lobby of City Hall. The artist is Alan Wright. Mr.Wright was an Arts Commissioner for the City of
Renton from 1962-1965.
CORRESPONDENCE AND ANNOUNCEMENTS: Jennifer Davis Hayes passed around the folder for people
to review. Other announcements included:
The Seattle Art Museum is holding an Community Open House for the Gaugin Exhibit which ends April
29. This open house will include arts and crafts activities for children.
Spring Arts Equinox is on Thursday, March 22,2012,from 6 to 8 pm. Everyone please attend.
Sound Transit will be remodeling the Sounder Train station. Open House to view plans

Resource Development: Next meeting will be March 16,6 pm at Luther's Table. Peter is exploring a
grant opportunity forthe 4 Cow Public Art Project.
2012 Art Grant Pro�ram: Twelve applications were received and the Committee submitted a
recommendation to fund 10 of the 12 projects at various levels. The project submitted on behalf of the
Performing Arts in Renton Committee was recommended to be considered from separate funding. Doug
asked that the award to Sierra Heights school be lowered from$350 to$200 because the project has
slightly changed and will only include interior vs.exterior artwork. Commissioners added$50 to Allied
Arts of Renton, Evergreen City Ballet and Renton Community Chorus awards. EVELYN REINGOLD
MOTIONED TO ACCEPTTHE AMENDED COMMITTEE'S RECOMMENDATION TO FUND 10 PROJECTS ATA
TOTAL OF$6,000,SECONDED BY DOUG KYES. COMMISSIONERS CONCURED, MOTION CARRIED.
1%for the Arts: The report on the Public Art Corridor Plan project was presented to develop a plan to
help develop public art in a more strategic and less reactive method. PETER HARTLEY MOTIONED TO
APPROVE THE PLAN TO HIRE A CONSULTANT TO DEVELOP A PUBLIC ART CORRIDOR PLAN,SECONDED BY
DOUG KYES. COMMISSIONERS CONCURED, MOTION CARRIED.
4Cows: No action at this time.
Rainier Ave: No action at this time.
Garden Ave N: The bids for the Transportation contractor are due April 13. The plan is to move the
sculpture Emerging to the NW corner of the intersection of Park Ave N and Garden Ave N.
Communications&Marketin�: First meeting will be held March 9, noon, Liberty Cafe.
Performin�Arts In Renton(PAIR): Peter announced that PAIR is working on a website to highlight
performing arts—liveatrenton.com. There is a mockup of the web site available. The request to
complete this project was submitted to the 2012 Art Grant Program process. The review committee
believed that this request should be reviewed and funded from the Committee Projects budget line ,
($3,370 established for 2012.)The money will be used to develop, implement and maintain the new web
site for one year. PAUL HEBRON MOTIONED TO APPROVE$500 FOR THE WEBSITE FUNDING REQUEST
FROM TF4E-COMMITTEE PROJECT BUDGET LINE,SECONDED BY JARIS ENGLISH. COMMISSIONERS
CONCURED,MOTION CARRIED.
Art Center: The next meeting is March 28,7 pm at the Community Center.
Galvanizin�Proiect: No action required at this time
Ad Hoc Committees
Sprin�Arts Equinox: Will be held Thursday, March 22,6-8 pm at Harambee(316 S 3`d St). Planning
committee includes Allied Arts of Renton.

Renton River Davs Booth: VJ presented a complete booth plan. EVELYN REINGOLD MOTIONED TO
RENTON RIVER DAYS PLAN TO PURSUE VOTING ON GRANTS,GAME, KIDS ACTIVITY AND A DRAWING.
COMMISSIONERS CONCURED, MOTION CARRIED. The idea of an art demonstration was discussed. VJ
and Bill will follow up. A form will be emailed to everyone to sign up for work shifts on Friday,Saturday
and Sunday of Renton River Days.
Commission Proiects
Carco Theatre Lobbv Displav: The attendance at the reception for Tracy Wallshallager was very poor.
The artist did not invite many people. It was reiterated that it is the artist's responsibility to invite
attendees.
Librarv Architecture Desi�n Team: No action since the last meeting. The initiative submitted regarding
the Downtown library is still under review and no decisions have been made differently at this time.
SIFF-Renton/Renton FilmFrenzv: Mark your calendars for May 18 through 24,with the SIFF-Renton
Opening Night Screening&Gala on Friday, May 18.
NEW BUSINESS
2012-2013 Goals and Updated Brochure: Commissioner's ideas for 2012-12 goals should be submitted
to lennifer. Discussion began about whether this brochure needs to be published since the same
information is on the City website. The Commission agreed that it makes sense to continue and asked
the Communications Committee to work on this project.
Commission Retreat: A date not yet determined. Commissioners were asked to send Jennifer one
sentence what you wish to get out of the retreat. Jennifer talked to one consultant about speaking at
the retreat. More information to follow.
Public Art Maintenance: In response to the concern for the placement of the Trees tapestry public art in
the lobby of the Senior Center, Doug Kyes requested a quote from L.A. Frames to develop a larger frame
to avoid further damage to the piece. Jennifer will work with the Senior Center and Facilities to remedy
the situation.
ADJOURNMENT: The March 6,2012, meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m. The next meeting will be
held on April 3,2012, in the Conferencing Center at 4:30 p.m.
