Lau, Ben Andrews, Natalie Gress, Michele Bettinger, Marsha Rollinger, Paul Hebron, Britt McKenzie, Mitch Shepard, Evelyn Reingold Absent: Natalie Gress, Bill Huls Guests:Janet Halford, Char Baker, Michael O'Halloran, Kris Sorenson, Benson Shaw,Alessandra Panieri, Dan Brasher City Staff present:Jennifer Davis Hayes,Community& Economic Development CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 4:32 PM RAINIER AVE PUBLIC ART UPDATE: Benson Shaw brought in one of the globes he's been making and updated us on the progress of the installation of the globes later this year. LIGHTING RENTON PUBLIC ART UPDATE: Alessandra Panieri and Dan Brasher presented a history and outline of their progress to date.They displayed two ideas that will be voted on in the June meeting. One was fish and birds that would span S 3�d Street.The second was a ladder and wolves that would be located on top of the Renton History Museum. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: COMMISSIONER BRITT MCKENZIE PRESENTED THE MINUTES FOR APRIL 2013. PAUL HEBRON MOVED TO APPROVE, SECONDED BY JARIS ENGLISH. MOTION APPROVED. CORRESPONDENCE AND ANNOUNCEMENTS: Jennifer Davis Hayes passed around the correspondence folder for individual review. • Britt McKenzie noted that the current artist at Carco Theatre will becoming down and a new one will be going up. Not certain if there will be an artist's reception. • Renton Civic Theater will be showing Aunt Dottie's Mother's Day Cabaret on May 12. • Ben Andrews showed SIFF-Renton promo, noted SIFF-Renton gala is on May 23. • Paul Hebron shared a "paint night" brochure, asked for people to contact him, if interested. OLD BUSINESS: Committee reports: :. . � • Renton Municipal Arts Commission Minutes Page 2 of 2 May 7,2013 • SIFF-Renton will be from May 23—29.Arts Commissioners will be invited and are encouraged to attend the opening event on May 23�d and the after gala party.There is a Preview FilmWalk on I May 7tn • 1%for Art—4 Cow Public art.Current location does not work. A meeting with all the stakeholders including the artist team is scheduled to discuss location and design. There is still interest in this project from the South Renton Connection neighborhood association and RMAC. Fundraising will be required for this project. • STQRY app. Evelyn will work with lennifer to identify plaque locations. • "Make Art Happen in Renton"Small Arts Grant. IT WAS MOVED BY PAUL HEBRON AND SECONDED BY MICHELE BETTINGER AND APPROVED BY ALL TO GIVE THE GRANTS COMMITTEE THE ULTIMATE DECISION ON SMALL GRANTS THAT SHALL OCCUR DURING THE YEAR. • The "Defining Spaces" public art exhibit at the Renton History Museum will open June 4. The curator would like to do a photography contest of exterior public art that is part of the expanded exhibit. There is a request for$85 for three small prizes such as gift certificates. PETER HARTLEY MOVED THAT THE ARTS COMMISSION PROVIDE$150($75 FIRST PRIZE,$50 SECOND PRIZE AND$35 THIRD PRIZE)AND SECONDED BY BEN ANDREWS. MOTION CARRIED. ADJOURNMENT: The May 7, 2013 meeting was adjourned at 6:00 pm.
