Shawn Daly asked Ben Cheney to take the gavel as President of the Mayor's Senior Advisory Committee for
2012. Shawn turned the meeting over to Mayor Denis Law.
llllayar Denis Law thanked everyone for inviting him and sincerely appreciates the volunteer efforts that are
provided to the city. Every year it becomes more critical for the operation in our city as dollars get tighter; it
becomes more challenging; less property tax due to devalued property; construction gone; we are at a difficult
time with revenue shortfalls. Beginning the budget process for 2013-2014; looking a little bleak. As you know
we just went through a significant snow storm; city staff did a great job keeping all the main roads open.

o Shawn made a blanket statement for the new and present members—as Advisory Committee
Members if you have ideas don't be afraid to present them; the other part of that issue is you do represent
the Mayor; you are a lot lil<e a staff person, so we have to be a little bit careful what you say and how you say
it; if there is something you aren't happy with voice your concerns to staff directly.
g Shawn's goal this year is to take a half day retreat, away from the center, to go over responsibilities,
rolls and our future for the center.
• Received a $100.00 donation from Lottie Calhoun.
s Shawn introduced Kay Stone;volunteer secretary—non member.
erry Higashiyamsspoke about Community Services. Terry said.the Renton Senior Activity Center is one of
the busiest centers in the state; one reason for that is people feel welcome here.
