Ben acknowledged the work of the Sub Committee's but rem.i.nded them that issues need
to be brought to a Staff inember prior to initiating any type of action. This will eliminate
duplicating any action that may have already been implemented.
' RECREATION SUPERVISOR—Shawn Daly _ ____
• The Carco Theater Senior Revue was a great success. For new members who
might not know this is the 34'year the revue has been presented. We talk
about promoting the Senior Center and the Senior Revue does a great job of
doing that. Not only does it promote the Senior Center and shows what great
things we do, it also gives our seniors an opporhznity to show their families
wha.t they do. Shawn acknowledged Lisa Wivag and what a great job she
does in putting together the Senior Revue and also wanted to thank everyone
who signed up and volunteered helping out at the two presentations of the
revue.
• Tuesday June 25'from 3 P.M.to 7 P.M. is the date and iime that boazd
members may participate at the Farmers Market. A table has been allocated
for members use. June 4'the openi.ng date the Recreation Dept. will be
manning a table.
• Shawn wanted to talk a little bit about what Ben had brought up at the
bea nning of this meeting. Shawn and Debbie both feel that many issues that
the Sub Committee's are bringing up are by passing the staff. It is i.mperative
that staff be kept informed and involved in all aspects of procedures for the
Senior Center. Two examples of how the Sub Committee worked successfully
with the Staff were the Float Committee recommendation and the committee
reviewi.ng and presenti.ng ADA policies for service animals. This was the way
, it should be done. Shawn is happy that Sub Committee's are expressing the
desire to be more involved, but there must always be communication between
Staff and Committee's.
  y .,
Examples of Sub Committee's working independent of the staff were,
possible remodel of lobby and offices, fee's for pool players and marketing
fliers. Had there been communication with Staff first the committee would
have been made aware of what procedures were already in place and saved the
committee time and effort. Shawn does not wish to discourage Sub
Committee's from suggesting things, but be mindful the Staff must be
informed first before any action is taken. Debbie echoed Shawn's sentiments
and expressed the only way to successfully operate is through communication.

Discussion:
• Ben Cheney- Ben appreciates what the Sub Committee's are doing but would
suggest in the future that they present ideas verbally instead of in written form.
• Sandy Polley—Apologized for sidestepping the staff. Sandy passed out the report
that had been compiled by her committee. When it was discovered that news
regarding the Senior Center has not been included in the Renton Newspaper,
Sandy called and talked to Dean Radford and he informed her they would be
happy to include any information about the Senior Center if we call them in
February. The Committee has had two meetings and Chris gave them rack cards
and brochures. In addition to the rack cards and brochures Chris gave the
committee she also said if there was anything additional that the committee would
like printed it could be done at no cost. Channe121 was another option.
ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION
• Milt Tiede—Issue of mirror installations to prevent accidents at corners in the
building. Ben made a motion to insta112 mirrors on the main level of the
building, Sandy moved to accept that motion and Peggy seconded the motion. It
was voted on by members and passed.
• Bill Clapp—Researched other Senior Centers and found out none of them charge
their members for using their Pool Rooms. The Marketing Committee at a
meeting on May 20'discussed a Tee shirt mazketing idea. They need to research
cost and have Sta.ff help with logo ideas.
, • Peggy Budziu—Would like to bring the salad bar information up at the next
meeting.
Ben adjourned the meeting at 11:15 A.M.
