Brown, Peggy Budziu,Mij Charboneau, Bill Clapp, Dorothy Cook, Eric Eastberg, Ruby Griffin,Elaine Koehler, Sandy Polley, Milt Tiede EXCUSED: Shirley Haddock,Marge Cochran Reep STAFF: Shawn Daly, Tim Williams, Debbie Little Ben called the meeting to order at 10:00 A.M., attendance was taken,xninutes of previous meeting were read, conections were noted and minutes were approved. TREASURER REPORT- Sandy Polley Bank statement as of 4/13/13 $16,133.19 RECREATION SUPERVISOR—Shawn Daly • Shawn is in the process of finalizing Karen's Foot Caze contract. She comes every Wednesday to offer foot care service for our seniors. We take $2.00 from the amount she charges and that goes into the Senior Center budget. This is not a signi.ficant amount but it does generate approximately$800 a yeaz. • There is an update on Patty Wills. Patty is one of two part ti.me people that assist in the Recreation Programming at the center. Patty has been off work for the last five weeks with health issues. It was decided to ask for volunteer donations to assist Patty during this time of need. Response was overwhelming with donations in the amount of$1146.00 and an anonymous donation of$700. Patty was shocked at the generosity of the people. Hopefully she will be returning to work the 1 St of May. • The t�assistance program concluded this week. Participation this yeaz assisted 350 people with their ta�ces. • An upcoming event is the Lions Clubs Pioneer Night here at the center. They will serve a light di.nner. � The Renton Senior Center is presenti.ng its Senior Revue again this yeaz at Carco Theater. Performances will be held May 16�'at 1 P.M. and May 17�'at 7 P.M. We need your help again this year to make this a great success. We need people to take tickets,help serve cookies and coffee and help where ever help is needed. A sign up sheet is being distributed so sign up for one or both performances and Shawn will assign you a responsibility. • There will be a meeting on Monday April 22nd at 10 A.M. for the float coxnmittee. t' • • `� RECREATION COORDINATOR—Debbie Little Watercolor class with Mary Ann starts today April 15th. There are two watercolor classes and the other class begins this Friday with Joanne. Tuesday April 16�'is the start of Hula for advanced beginners. Introduction to Computers 1 meets Tuesday April 16�'at 9:30 A.M. If you want to update your Orca card there will be a representative at the center on Tuesday April 16�'. Oil Painting classes begin Tuesday April 16�'and will continue until May 21St. Social Media and Craigs List is being offered this Tuesday April 16�. The � class is to help you understand the social media and how it functions. The Seattle Banjo Club will be playing for our enjoyment from 10 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.this Tuesday April 16�`. T'he Book Club meets Wednesday April 17�'at 10 A.M. They are reviewin�"My Jim"by Nancy Rawles. A special event is ta.king place this Wednesday April 17 at 11:30. The lunch that day is a specialluncheon to honor our seniors who are 90 years of age and older. Dessert will be cake for everyone. • A new program is being started this year. That pro�ram is a Gazdening Workshop that will be starting Wednesday April 17 . Carol White a seasoned gardener will be instructing this first class on gardening basics. • We have a field trip on Thursday April 18�to the Pike Place Market. We'11 be provided a tour of the market and sample many of the food options. • T'he AARP Driver Safety Program will meet Thursday Apri118�' and the second half on April 25�'. Participates are required to attend both classes. • Hearing Aid Checks and Cleaning is on Friday Apri119�'. This service is by appointment only and is provided by Costco. . Upcoming classes and events: Apri122nd,Dishibution Planning for IRA's and Retirement Plans,Apri123`d, Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisor (SHIBA),Apri123ia,Green River Trail walk,April 23`d,Legal Information provided by Dan Kellogg,Apri124th is the beginning of an 8 hour class on Photo Elements 9. April 25�'Doubles Pool Tournament If you or anyone you know is a softball player or would like to be one the Softball team needs four more players. Women players are needed to round the team out. RECREATION DIRECTOR—Tim Williams • The recreational division is winding up upcoming summer scheduling. Summer day camps aze filling up rapidly. The Aquatic center will open June 15�'. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and the sun will come out. Movies and concerts at Coulon Pazk will start the Tuesday after July 4�'. This is a six week program providing fun and entertai.nment for the family. The Community Center � annual Garage Sale is being held Apri120�' starting at 9 A.M. and concluding at 1 P.M. • The Senior Revue is a great show and really show cases the Renton Senior Activity Center. It's great to see the many talents displayed by the seniors. Somethi.ng you might not know is Carco Theater is being leased out by Puget Sound Access. As of January lst they came to an agreement with the city to operate Carco Theater. This will better serve the public and will provide more productions and classes during the day. ti: r • • COMIVIITTEE REPORTS: Milt reported that his committee met and had set priorities. One question that came up was regarding the pool room and whether pool players should be paying a fee to play. This issue will be reviewed and determined at a later date. Peggy reported that she and Bill had been in contact with the Kent Senior Center regazding how they provide a salad bar for their luncheons. They will have an update at the second meeting in May. A concem for considering a salad bar is the cost involved. Peggy said the goal of the Historical Committee is to work to keep the records current. She said Pat Baylor had spent a lot of time bringing the records current and Peggy and her committee are determined to keep them current. Pat inquired if the letter regarding service dogs at the center had been submitted and Ben confirmed that it had been. Ben let the board know that Pat Baylor will be doing training at the next board meeting. Ben adjourned the meeting at 10:57. Kay Stone, Secretary Ben Cheney,President
