GENERAL NOTES
CONCRETE PANEL JOINT LAYOUT IS SCHEMATIC. CONTRACTOR TO
SUBMIT PLACING AND JOINTING PLAN TO ENGINEER FOR APPROVAL,
PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTING FORMS. JOINTS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED
PER SPEC SECTION 5-05.3(8) AND PER WSDOT STANDARD PLAN
A-40.10-03.
2. JOINTS ARE NOT SHOWN FOR CEMENT CONCRETE SIDEWALK AREAS.
SEE SHEET 28 FOR SCORED SIDEWALK CONCRETE DETAILS.
3. SEE SHEET 28 FOR URBAN DESIGN PAVEMENT LAYOUT. SEE SHEET
14 FOR ROADWAY SCORE JOINT LOCATIONS AND SHEET 30 FOR
SCORE JOINT DETAILS.
4. LONGITUDINAL JOINTS ARE TO BE CONSTRUCTION JOINTS UNLESS
PAVED BY A MACHINE CAPABLE OF PLACING AND FINISHING
CONCRETE FOR TWO OR MORE PANEL WIDTHS (IN WHICH CASE A
CONTRACTION JOINT IS ALLOWED).
5. ALL TRANSVERSE AND LONGITUDINAL CONTRACTION JOINTS SHALL BE
FORMED WITH SUITABLE POWER -DRIVEN CONCRETE SAWS. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE SUFFICIENT SAWING EQUIPMENT
CAPABLE OF COMPLETING THE SAWING TO THE REQUIRED DIMENSIONS
AND AT THE REQUIRED RATE TO CONTROL CRACKING. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ADEQUATE ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING
FACILITIES FOR NIGHT SAWING.
6. COMMENCEMENT OF SAWING TRANSVERSE CONTRACTION JOINTS WILL
BE DEPENDENT UPON THE SETTING TIME OF THE CONCRETE AND
SHALL BE DONE AT THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE TIME FOLLOWING
PLACEMENT OF THE CONCRETE WITHOUT TEARING OR RAVELING THE
ADJACENT CONCRETE EXCESSIVELY.
7. LONGITUDINAL CONTRACTION JOINTS SHALL BE SAWED AS REQUIRED
TO CONTROL CRACKING AND AS SOON AS PRACTICAL AFTER THE
INITIAL CONTROL TRANSVERSE CONTRACTION JOINTS ARE COMPLETED.
8. ANY DAMAGE TO THE CURING MATERIAL DURING THE SAWING
OPERATIONS.
SHALL BE REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SAWING IS COMPLETED.
9. WHEN CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENT IS PLACED ADJACENT TO
EXISTING CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENT, THE VERTICAL FACE OF ALL
EXISTING WORKING JOINTS SHALL BE COVERED WITH POLYETHYLENE
FILM OR BUILDING PAPER IN ACCORDANCE WITH AASHTO M 171.
10.
LENGTH TO WIDTH RATIO BETWEEN JOINTS SHALL NOT
EXCEED 1.5:1.
JOINT SPACING SHALL NOT EXCEED 15'.
11.
JOINT LOCATION IN SIDEWALKS SHALL BE LOCATED TO
DIFFERENTIATE
PANEL THICKNESS AND PAVEMENT TREATMENT, TYP.
12.
ISOLATION JOINTS FOR STRUCTURES ARE NOT SHOWN
ON THESE
PLANS BUT SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED PER DETAILS ON
SHEET 7 OR
WSDOT STANDARD PLAN A-40.15-00 FOR ALL CATCH
BASINS,
MANHOLES, WATER VALVES AND MONUMENTS.
13.
PROVIDE MEDIUM BROOM FINISH PERPENDICULAR TO THE CENTERLINE
FOR ALL CONCRETE IN STREET.
