Renton Airport Advisory Committee Meeting

• Question from Captain Thomas Imrich, Mercer Island
resident; will there be water-rescue involvement from
Mercer Island? Answer: yes, Mercer Island will be invited to
participate

• Capital Projects Engineer, Kamran Yazdidoost has taken a job in the
private sector and will be leaving the beginning of March

• New Operations and Maintenance Supervisor position filled with the
promotion of Brad Zaruba from Airport Maintenance Worker

•Question from Mercer Island resident– what is Renton doing to get FAA to
change FAA’s safety-related RNP instrument approach and departure
procedure development and publication from FAA AVN priority 3 to FAA AVN
priority 2 or 1?

•Question from Marleen – what is the Airport’s response to noise complaints?
There was a process for calling the Airport with a noisy low flying plane
situation.
•Question from Diane –military in middle of night, is there prior notice that can
go out to public?
•Request from Marleen – for Airport to announce special activities and events
on social media
•Question from Captain Thomas Imrich - will Paine Field commercial flights
affect Renton?

Area (RSA). Joelle Briggs, FAA, responded that FAA's priority is
on ensuring safety and meeting the RSA, and has invested
significant funds in making RSA's compliant.

alternatives

• Alternatives 5 and 6 using EMAS, were the preferred
alternatives during the RAAC meeting in August 2015

• Joelle Briggs explained that the purpose of the Runway
Protection Zone (RPZ) is for the protection of people and
property on the ground.
• EMAS is designed for the anticipated aircraft mix
• Seaplane Launch Ramp, North Boeing bridge and Cedar River
are directly impacted by extending runway surface to the
north
• Will a financial feasibility study be included to determine

future operating and maintenance costs? Not included in the
Master Plan project scope
