On March 5, a proclamation of local emergency was issued for the city due to the
public health impacts of COVID‐19. During uncertain times such as these, the city
may require supplemental assistance if the severity of the event goes beyond the
capabilities of local resources. The emergency declaration enables the city to call in
those additional resources. Also, the city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is
activated virtually between 8 am to 5 pm.
Large events and meetings over 250 people have been canceled per governor’s
emergency order. The Public Health Officer also prohibits ALL gatherings under 250
unless they comply specifically with Public Health guidance to reduce infection. We
have closed and cancelled all programming, events, meetings, and rentals through
March 31 at Renton Community Center, Renton History Museum, Renton Senior
Activity Center, North Highlands Neighborhood Center, and Highlands Neighborhood
Center. The Senior Lunch Program is still operating with sack lunches available for
pick‐up by drive through only, Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m.‐12:30 p.m.
City staff will be out front to hand out sack lunches.
We’ve also established a COVID‐19 page on our website and are working diligently
to share information from public health officials via our Twitter, Facebook, and
Nextdoor accounts. We have been working closely with members of my Inclusion
Task Force to keep them informed of the situation and be available to them and
their communities during these times.
The containment of COVID‐19 is an ever‐evolving situation with all events happening
in real time. Because of this, your best source for the most up‐to‐date information is
Public Health ‐ Seattle and King County and the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention.
Invitations to partake in the 2020 Federal Census will begin showing up in mailboxes
this week! A completed form ensures everyone in your household is counted which
is important as the census determines allocation of federal funding to support

housing, education, transportation, health care, and other programs and
infrastructure in Renton. Please don’t delay and take your census online now.
Information about preventative street maintenance, traffic impact projects, and
road closures happening this week can be found at http://rentonwa.gov/traffic. All
projects are weather permitting and unless otherwise noted, streets will always
remain open. Preventative street maintenance, traffic impact projects, and road
closures will be at the following locations:
Monday, March 16 through Sunday, March 22. Road closure on South 14th
Street between Smithers Avenue South and Davis Avenue South for utility

Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20. Single intermittent lane closures
in both directions on Talbot Road South near South 45th Street due to roadway
and utility construction. Questions may be directed to Tom Main at 206‐999‐

Wednesday, March 18 to Friday, March 20, 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The
Northeast 44th Street on‐ramp to southbound I‐405 will be closed nightly. A
signed detour will be in place. Questions may be directed to Justin Johnson at

Friday, March 20 to Saturday, March 21, 9:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. The Northeast
30th Street on‐ramp to northbound I‐405 will be closed. A signed detour will be
