Meeting Minutes
July 12, 2011
4:30 p.m. — City Hall — 7th Floor Conferencing Center
I. CALL TO ORDER

Chair, Larry Reymann, called the July 12, 2011, meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. Roll call
was taken; all members were present.
II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Cynthia Burns made a motion, seconded by Mike O'Donin, to approve the agenda as
presented. All were in favor, motion carried, the July 12, 2011, agenda was approved.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion was made by AI Dieckman and seconded by Marlene Winter to approve the
June 2011, minutes as written, all were in favor, motion carried. The minutes were
approved as submitted.
IV. DISCUSSION/ACTION ITEMS
Mike O'Donin wanted to relay a message from his wife that she walks their dog every
day and how courteous the park employees are. Marlene and Cynthia echoed these
sentiments. Mike requested these comments be passed onto staff. Terry thanked
Mike and his wife for this acknowledgement.

. Marlene Winter commented the signage on the new bike path was confusing. She
volunteered to show the person in charge of signage the areas of concern.
V. ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT
Terry distributed information on the upcoming Renton River Days and asked the
members if they would like to sign up to work in the Community Services Booth over
the weekend. This year we will be giving away seeds/plants.
The Fourth of July was busy and had very few problems for the large crowd we hosted.
The Return to Renton Car Show had 400 cars.
AI Dieckman asked what the speakers were for at the north turnaround at Coulon ',
Park. Staff noted they are used for emergency notification only. I
VI. OLD BUSINESS
Lake to Sound Trail Desi�n Review
Todd Black, Capital Project Coordinator, updated the Board on the Lake to Sound Trail
—the 30% Design Review is completed. The 16-mile biking and walking trail linking the
shoreline of Lake Washington in Renton to the shoreline of Puget Sound in Des
Moines. The trail will connect five cities: Renton,Tukwila, SeaTac, Burien and Des
Moines. The project is avoiding and minimizing environmental impacts.
The Lake to Sound Trail Project is intended to provide a net benefit to the Fort Dent
Park and Black River�Riparian Forest. Benefits include preserving ecological function,
connecting parks, open space and natural resources, in addition to providing new
trails to underserved area of the trail system. The completion will offer a safe
alternative to transportation separate from the streets and highways.
PRO Plan Update
Leslie gave an update noting the last two workshops were held the 28th and 29th. She
thanked all those who were able to attend. They were good workshops, producing
ten conceptual plans for 'parks of the future'. An interdepartmental meeting was held
today and following the Park Board meeting,the Steering Committee would be
meeting tonight.
The Project/Priority list had two surprises: Tiffany and Cascade Parks.
A presentation to the Committee of the Whole would be on August 1. The Draft Plan
is anticipated the end of August.

VII. OTHER COMMUNICATION
Lea�ue—Taxable Fees
Tim Williams, Recreation Director, reported that the athletic leagues would now be
taxed. The 9.5%tax would be passed on to the leagues. The Boys and Girls Clubs are
not taxed, nor are lessons. This will take effect October 1, 2011. (The tax has been in
existence for some time,just not enforced.)
Special Events and Nei�hborhood Picnics
Bonnie Rerecich, Neighborhood Resources, Special Events Manager noted
neighborhood picnics and special events coming up.
VIII. INFORMATION
� There will not be an August meeting and the September meeting will be held on the
regular second Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at 4:30 p.m. in the 7th floor
Conferencing Center.
IX. ADJOURNMENT
A motion was made by Cynthia Burns and seconded by Troy Wigestrand to adjourn
the July 12, 2011, meeting at 5:40 p.m. All were in favor, motion carried, meeting
adjourned.
