Meeting Minutes
December 4, 2012
4:30 p.m. — Renton History Museum
I. CALL TO ORDER
In Attendance
The following were present:
Members: AI Dieckman, Cynthia Burns, Larry Reymann,Tim Searing,
Marlene Winter
Staff: Terry Higashiyama, Leslie Betlach, Kelly Beymer, Peter Renner, Elizabeth
Stewart, Bonnie Rerecich
Guest: Mayor Denis Law, Council President Rich Zwicker, Michelle Dieckman
Chair, Larry Reymann, called the December 4, 2012, meeting to order at 4:30
p.m. Roll call was taken; Mike O'Donin and Troy Wigestrand were absent.
II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Cynthia Burns made a motion, seconded by Marlene Winter,to approve the
agenda as presented. All were in favor, motion carried, the December 4, 2012,
agenda was approved.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Larry Reymann asked for an amendment to the November 13, 2012, minutes to
correct the location of adult sockeye trapped to read "at the weir" rather than
bloodstock facility. A motion was made by Cynthia Burns to approve the
November minutes with amendment noted. The motion was seconded by AI
Dieckman to approve the November 13, 2012, all were in favor, motion carried.
The minutes were approved subject to amendment.

IV. ADMINISTRATORS REPORT
Council President Rich Zwicker addressed the commissioners and thanked them
for their service, noting the value of their time and efforts. Terry Higashiyama
acknowledged the work of the council and their support, and her gratitude to
the commissioners for their input in preparing the Community Services
Department budget announcing City Council passing of the 2013, 2014 Budget at
the Monday December 3, 2012, meeting.
Terry introduced Mayor Law, who acknowledged the importance of the work of
the Park Commission, noting that the city has had an increase of 56% in the
population we serve with a decrease of 15% in the workforce. The Mayor noted
that the services provided by the Community Services Department are vital to
the quality of life in Renton.
Council President Zwicker,joined the Mayor and Terry in presenting small gifts
to each of the Commissioners as a token of appreciation.
Terry addressed the commission, highlighting a number of items that were
accomplished in 2012, and acknowledgment of the staff, teamwork and
partnerships that were instrumental in achieving successful outcomes. Terry
announced that the City had received a donation at the City Council Meeting on
Monday (December 3, 2012) from the 15Y Financia) N.W. Foundation for the
accessible playground project in the amount of$150,000. This donation brings
the total dollars raised through donations, and grants to $551,000 and brings the
project that much closer to a goal of$800,000.
Elizabeth Stewart,from the Renton Histary Museum, welcomed members of the
Parks Commission, staff and guest to the Museum thanking them for the
opportunity to host the meeting. She shared that they had completed a
member's survey this year and redesigned their newsletter, and spoke about the
current "Uniform for Every Purpose" exhibit which includes military, fraternal,
and sports uniforms that connected members of the community to each other.
She noted that the museum had just finished three new permanent exhibits
highlighting Renton's earliest industries and reported that in 2013 they will again
be working with students from Renton High School on a project connecting
historical photos of places in Renton to other places in the students' lives. -
Marlene Winter thanked staff and the City for providing the Clam Lights at
Coulon Park and acknowledged what a wonderful event is was and the turnout ,
despite the rain.

Cynthia Burns shared her appreciation of the leadership in Renton including
Mayor Law and the Council, Terry and staff and that she felt good about being
associated with an effective organization.
Tim Searing added that he felt that the results of the employee survey were a
positive testament to the City and its leadership, and it was noted that
Community Services Department had the highest scores.
X. ADJOURNMENT
A motion was made by Tim Searing and seconded by Cynthia Burns to adjourn the
December 4, 2012, meeting at 5:15 p.m. All were in favor, motion carried,
meeting adjourned.
