VII. DISCUSSION/ACTION ITEMS
Transportation Presentation
Gregg Zimmerman introduced Doug Jacobson, Deputy Public Works Administrator.
They were in attendance to discuss the 2012 Transportation Capital Projects overview.
Upcoming major projects include the 2012 construction of Rainier Avenue S., Garden
Ave. N., NE 4th St. and SW 27th St. Phase 3 of Rainier Ave S. is currently underway. The
City is addressing concerns of congested intersections and pedestrian safety on Rainier
Avenue. A series of improvements will result in a safer and more attractive area for
vehicles and pedestrians. The project includes eliminating left-hand turns, adding
wide 8' sidewalks, planter strips with vegetation and upgraded street lighting. This is
the 3d phase of the project. The SW 27th Street/Strander Boulevard Extension Project
began in January and completion is scheduled for early 2014. This construction of a
two-lane roadway will go under the tracks and head north connecting with the future
Sound Transit Tukwila Commuter Rail station.
The South Lake Washington Roadway Improvement (Garden Avenue North Widening)
includes widening to allow for wider and safer traffic lanes. New signals will be
installed and construction will include additional sidewalks, bike lanes, and street
lighting improvements. All these projects are on the City's website and frequently
updated. Doug Jacobson distributed his business card encouraging anyone to call him
with any questions or concerns they may have.
"Parks, Recreation and Natural Areas Plan Award"

IX. OLD BUSINESS
This budget cycle the Mayor will reconvene the Citizen's Budget Group, the draft
timeline was distributed. Terry noted that Community Services will be cutting
approximately$300,000 from their budget. Property taxes as well as liquor taxes are
shrinking and the City expects a 4.8 million dollar shortfall in 2012-2013.
In previous years we have not had an August meeting,Terry indicated she may want
to combine the August/September meeting and have it late August dependent on
where we are in the budget process. We will discuss further at the July meeting.
