LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS & FIREFIGHTERS DISABILITY BOARD
REGULAR MEETING
Minutes
May 26, 2020 – 9:00 a.m.

Attendees: Jim Phelan, Russ Olson, Ed Prince, Valerie O’Halloran, Wendy
Rittereiser, Leslie Clark and Maria Sahagun
Absent: Jim Matthew
CALL TO ORDER
Jim Phelan called the meeting to order at 9:02 am.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Russ Olson moved to approve February 25, 2020 minutes. Ed Prince seconded.
Motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS - None
NEW BUSINESS
Staff provided updates to the Board on the following items. No action required
from the Board.
2020 Dental coverage – Wendy clarified to the Board that since the LEOFF I
dental coverage mirrors the active employee coverage beginning in 2020,
fluoride treatment is no longer included. Fluoride has had very limited
utilization. Staff will remind the retiree who’ve used the benefit in the past two
years of this change.
Jim Phelan clarified those retirees wanting fluoride treatment will need to get
approval from the Board by submitting an appeal with doctor’s note that
indicate a medical necessity.
Deceased Member Wendy reported the passing of William Larson, Firefighters.
Long Term Care (LTC) Update – Maria reported the number of retirees receiving
LTC benefits and their approved monthly benefit. One of the retirees is not
currently submitting benefits for in-home care due to COVID19. When he
resume his in-home care, no Board approval will be required.
